These days I find the 882 free items reducing every year, usually the 882's are given away for free when you buy qualifying items. The MP3 player in question was given away with a Mobile Phone.

Depends how clued up the staff on collection are (or even the pickers).

With most special offers lately like BOGOF or buy 1 get 1 half price offers are actual cat numbers (at full price) and not 882's (zero price). In this case the till automatically adjusts the price of the full price.

Well done if you manage to get 1.

Tried this at York Clifton Moor - got told that it was daft to expect to get an mp3 player for free, didn't have time for a heated discussion, so just got a refund.

Tried this today and worked a treat..had to buy something for our sons b'day reserved it online ,went to the self service point added the MP3 player came up as free paid for it then spent the next next 10 mins waiting for it to arrive...then bingo got the MP3 player and no questions asked...though i did make a quick exit!!!

I dont know who your informant is but 882 prefix catalogue numbers are usually issued from suppliers as an incentive to buy a product ie. the item you are referring to you got free with a mobile phone. There was also a free micro system issued with a mobile phone. The list can go on, you get certain items free with certain products. So if you ever order anything that you get a free product think about the fact that you would like to get this item,as when people are putting them on just to get a deal for nothing you could well lose out,as once stocks of the free item expire there is usually no more and of course they hold no value on our system as they are issued from suppliers to be purchased with the said items not coz you tried to get something for nothing.

I got one of these this afternoon. I reserved a touch lamp I wanted and thought I'd try and get the free MP3 player, it worked!

EDIT: I forgot to say. It came up on the pay kiosk thing that the MP3 was unavailable but I still pressed the 'I want this@ button and still got it, so don't be put off if it says that when you go to get one.

I got one, tried in a diff store bout 15 minutes ealiar and the manager was the one who served me on collections. He was having none of it. Still got one from a diff store tho, hehe.

I didn't bother with the reserve 'thing' I just walked in to argos, went to the fast pay machine, put in the number and bought 3 (for my daughters - i'm not greedy but you can't get one without the others!), the message on screen said we have 4 in stock type in how many you want. ordered something else as well, paid and collected.
however my sister did exactly the same at her nearby store but when she went to her collection point the manager came over and refused to let her have hers, she'd only ordered 1 but he said it was a free gift with another item and she couldn't have it! She was extremely embarassed!!
