The sign is actually just before Launceston on the river Tamar. Okehampton is miles away and well into Devon. :p

:rotfl: you're completely right! By the time I've reached that point on the A30 it's all blurred into one until I get to the windmills at the top of Truro and I know I'm on the home straight :D

The first pic shows me I am home, well the copse of trees up high on the hilltop as I come over to the last hill in Devon, just before the Lifton turn off, the sign for Cornwall and the slog up the hill to Launceston

But for most I think the Tamar Bridge is the crossing into Cornwall, certainly the most impressive.

Glad it's not just us that do that

We travel from the west mids & always set off around 4 am arriving in Looe around 10 ish including a good break at a services for breakfast.

I never see any serious traffic until it doesn't matter & the getting up very early kind of adds to the holiday feeling, my kids love it :)

It also saves on hotel bills for the Friday night!
I did suggest that we made a really early start - the three men of the house just looked at me & said 'Well, that isn't going to happen is it'!!

You just need to make them think it was their idea. ;)

    True27,

We're travelling from Oxfordshire & heading for Mousehole (Penzance).

Just a warning, there are roadworks at the Chiverton Cross roundabout on the A30 at the start of the Redruth/Camborne bypass for the next 44 weeks, also roadworks with lane closures and contraflow on the same bypass for 5 miles with 50mph speed limit and average speed cameras starting next week and lasting till October, so expect long delays at peak times.

All good timing for roadworks, right at the peak holiday season.

Thanks for this, I shall pass it on to a number of my friends who are heading to Cornwall at various times over the summer.

We have decided to travel a bit further into Cornwall on the Friday night & have booked a family room at the Victoria Inn, Roche.

Oh the Victoria is lovely! The rooms are really comfortable and the restaurant is lovely! I'm sure you'll like it there :)

Too late for this time but Holiday Inn Express allow 2 children up to the age of 18 to stay free in their family rooms, when accompanied of course. They have an Hotel at Exeter around £60 a night inc breakfast. Can be cheaper using friends and family rate, details HERE

And I cannot believe someone driving from Oxfordshire to Plymouth needs to stop on the way....

What is it? 5-6 hour drive? Maybe stop for a coffee or three , but overnight!!

Sorry, just seems a bit of overkill
