International bidders...

Hi guys,

I'm back selling on ebay after a looooong break

Have advertised a batch of things and within 2 days I have had 3 requests for international postage amounts....

Possible scam? Am I being too suspicious? If genuine where is the best website for postage rates.

Thanks in advance

Gx

Over half my items go overseas and without them my business would not be able to survive.

However, I limit my sales to Europe (excluding Italy) , The US , Canada , Australia and sometimes Asia and the Far East. I don't sell worldwide alhtough I do often open my listings to individual buyers from 'other' countries if they contact me and they look OK and don't set off my scam radar.

Ive posted stuff all over the world recently. I think its because the pound is so week people dont mind paying for the postage as they still get the item cheaper than it costs in their own countries.

I just use the royal mail price finder which is on the royal mail website to calculate postage for overseas.

Can I ask why you exclude Italy? Just curious.

You'll find a lot of sellers do. Their postal service is notoriously bad aparently and things 'go missing' a lot.

I have only sold to Italy once. I posted on the Friday as soon as he paid and on Monday he was on to me saying "I haven't had it yet!" Put me off rather but maybe he was just a niggly buyer anyway regardless of origin. :D

They do seem to have a real issue with processing stuff through their systems and a higher than average percentage of items just get lost en route.

Nor did I. As a former postmaster, we never had any indication Italy was dodgy. Poland, Jamaica and of course Nigeria - but not Italy.
I have recently sold three items there, all arrived and the buyers eamiled me to tell me.

I get requests for international postage costs every day. Bring it on I say. It means your items are getting noticed. I sell all over the world every week and don't exclude any country, losses and conmen are all over the world. It's a risk we take when choosing to sell online for a living.
