Snowy, if you're going to buy soda bread flour, buy Mortons........it's fool proof! Even my twelve year old son can manage to make that for breakfast.

Edited to add: Not that I think you need a foolproof recipe.......oh dear, back to my hole, will someone pass me a spade so I can did myself out of this one.:o

Just checked your link Pink-winged, planning to have a short break to Belfast, within the next 6 months, so hopefully will get more soda bread, or at least failing that I'll get the flour and bring it back to London!!!

Redrose - apologies from me too for going a bit silly here. Maybe a bread maker would be the answer to my problem?? Though I don't know if a bread maker would be able to cope with soda farls - I guess it'd make the dough, but wouldn't be able to bake them since they are flat. Back to square one for me...

Churchmouse, I'm going to give it another go tomorrow using the magical Morton's flour as recommended by Pink...foolproof indeed:whistle::grin:!!! (It had better be.)

    Really enjoying this thread! LOL

Pink winged, I haven't been able to go near anything remotely bread like for weeks, but I your recipe could be the thing to tempt me towards it a bit. Irish soda bread is very similar to Scottish 'scones'. I have a real fancy for 'scone 'n' yone'. (scone and cheese.) If I'm brave enough to have a go at actually cooking for a change, I'll let you know how it goes!
May all your dots fall silently to the ground.
