    Just received the email too.
I have sent a reply (don't try to email from the customer service link at the bottom of the email it will just get returned)

I am replying to this email as I don't believe the reason for it being cancelled.
How can it go from usually dispatched within 7 days to unable to obtain stock?
I'm sure a large company such as Tesco are able to source this product with no problem.
I am hoping that you will re-instate my order and send me the game that I ordered as soon as you are able to source stock.
I would appreciate it if you could reply as soon as possible.
    Yours sincerely

    received the same email..

not sure what to do yet..
  • I was ready to have a bit of a rant there, but I see at £37.99 it's still out of stock.

Agreed I don't see them having a problem getting more stock, and several days does seem a long time to say they don't have any. If this was a stock clearance and no money has been taken I don't think there is much of a case really. Doesn't hurt to try.

Also got the email and was happy to use their lies against them.

I just said that as they are currently out of stock (as it says on their website) I wish to wait until they have stock.

I figure they have a choice....supply the game at the price they quoted or not sell it ever again.

Final choice is to just ignore my complaint - and with a company the size of Tesco I suspect they feel they can afford to. But hey, I've enough time to send a few emails to watchdog and various papers.

I can also point out at the same time just how *bad* value Tescos has been for a weekly shop. Many of their basics are often a far higher price than the likes of Asda but packaged at a slightly different weight so they cannot be directly compared.

For example, at one point their 5% Beef Mince was more than twice the price of Asda's and they got away with it because their's was 500g and Asda's was 454g (1lb). Dunno what they did when asda changed their pack size to 500g recently but I guess they *finally* reduced their own price. Only took them 3 years.

    My other gripe is this:

I have been shopping at Tesco's for my family (on and off) for over 7 years. In that time I estimate that I have been defrauded by mispriced items on over 50% of all shops. Tesco taught me to "always check the receipt". It got so bad last year that I stopped going to Tesco's altogether because I *always* had to factor in time to go to their customer services desk to get a refund on an overcharge.

(FYI: I estimate these mistake %ages for other supermarkets: Sainsbury's: 5%; Asda 5%; Morrisons: I've never had to question a receipt.)

In all that time I *never* had a mistake that was in my favour. Never. On average it was between £1-2 over per shopping trip....even when I spent only £10-20.

Now in my experience most customers are too busy/distracted/tired/etc. to checkj their receipts. Tescos currently have over 30% of the UK market. Put those two things together and is anyone really surprised that Tesco can afford to offer "Item for free if we overcharge"? After all, for every item they give away they defraud 100 customers of £1 or more. Heck, I'll give anyone a free can of beans if they give me £100.

Tesco's truly is a triumph of style over substance - or in other words marketing over service/value.

If anyone here is a fan of Tesco's and always does their shop there then I hope (I really do) that you are getting great value and service and that you are delighted with your experience. But I strongly advise you to always check your receipt carefully and once in a while take a trip to Asda/Morrisons/etc. and get a feel for their prices and quality. In truth, I have found that even Sainsbury's is now better value than Tesco's.

Sorry for the tirade folks but this is MSE and shopping around for your groceries is a great way of saving money. :)

Oh yes, and had Tesco's bothered to keep to their deal or even had told me the truth (pricing mistake) then I would never have typed the above.

If even 1 person reads the above and thinks about trying another supermarket then Tesco's great customer service is already paying dividends for them.

Got the cancelled email - not surprised to be honest.

Sent a reply along the same lines of Sparky's

If the game appears again as in stock, at whatever price, then I will moan again.

I would be happy with a "Im sorry we made a mistake....." email, but it would seem big companies don't belive in good manners anymore.

  • E-mailling Tesco to say i'll wait and let Watchdog know too, a mistake and apology is fine, but lying to cover it up annoys the hell out of me !
