So much for the EON bill dropping - it's not moving. But as we can budget for this then I suppose it's not too bad. Last winter was really cold and as we only got the wood burning stove in on 18th December we probably did use the heating more than expected. So I'll wait patiently and then not have to pay any extra for the bill over the year. And we've chatted at the work and I do seem to have the lowest bill - one of my work colleagues is £240 pm for gas & elec  so my £80 is kind of paltry by comparison.
Sorry to intrude on your thread ClootiesMum, but just wondered if you have had a chat with us about ways we might be able to help reduce your energy bills.
For instance, make sure you are on a tariff which best suits your circumstances. There are extra discounts available for paying by Direct Debit and managing your account online.
I would pop your annual usage in kWh on to one of the comparison sites, too. This will list all the options available, both with us and the other suppliers. Make sure we are competitive.
We might also be able to help reduce your usage. Give our specialist Energy Efficiency team a call and they will be happy to advise of ways you may be able to cut back.
Ask for a copy of a booklet called '100 ways to save money by saving energy.' It's free and contains lots of useful tips.
Check out our website, particularly the interactive house; more good tips here.
Not sure if this is any use ClootiesMum but every little helps these days. Give me a shout if I can help at all as will be happy to do so.

Hi Clootiesmum,
I enjoyed reading your diary! Re your endowment, I am by no means an expert on insurance, but I think what might have happened is that, when you stopped paying in to it, it may have become 'paid up', which means it just sits there, and in theory gains interest or whatever (but not much in this day and age of course). It all depends on how much you have paid in, and the charges made by the company etc, but I would check your documentation and contact the company, because it may have a value - and if it does, it belongs to you. Of course, it may not cover all you paid in, but is definitely worth following up. There are companies that will buy endowments, and I understand that sometimes they offer more than the surrender value, but you would need to take proper advice on that.
Good luck x0 -
Hi there folks,
Malc - thanks for your input - we're on an on-line tariff fixed until May 2011 and we already get a reduction for direct debit & on-line billing. We're pretty good at saving the basics in energy but I'll ask for a copy of the booklet - thanks again
And Dawn - thanks for the info about the endowment - it was kind of what I thought but I'll follow it up anyway - if you don't ask, you don't get.
And the good news is - I've been signed back to work - yahay :j:j
