Splitting the bill with friends

This is quite a minor issue but I have a very mean friend who despite earning a mega salary always seems to be the one ducking out of paying the right amount for things ie getting others to save him money but not the other way round

I have booked something for the weekend and because children are going we have got two family deals saving us £7. However it cost me £1.95 in booking fees and a further 70p in telephone calls. How would you work out the saving based on the below, I want to tell this person exactly how much he owes without him coming back to me and informing me that his should be cheaper as I think he'll probably expect us to split the bill evenly three ways which isn't fair as we have no kids!

adults £6 children £5 (6 adults and 4 children going) family booking £49 plus booking fees of £1.95.

    I've been Money Tipped!
I'd say £1 per family group (you mention 3 ways) on top of what they would have paid for the tickets anyway.

So if one group is 2ad, 2kids, then they should pay the cost of the family deal + £1.

If one group is just 2 adults, then they should just pay for 2 adults + £1

I'm sorry but I'm afraid I don't understand. How many adults and children are going, what form of group, and how much are you paying in total?

Why can't you all just pay £5 each?

I would swallow the cost of the telephone calls and charge the two family groups £1 extra to cover the booking fee. Alternatively if you think you are going to get swindled, tell your friend you don't have enough available on your card so could he book it and then give him the correct money.

I still don't get it I am affraid... If each of you booked separately, how much would each family pay?

You mentioned the family discount - you wouldn't get that without the children so that discount would go for each family. And add them their part of the extra costs on the top ie phone&charge.

Splitting 3 ways is rubbish. Either do it per family if you can/know what the cost per family is (their cost is different to your because of the children) or per person.

    ie 50.95/10 = 5.10

True, but cheese-paring penny-pinchers do have that effect on the people around them after they've been scammed more than once or twice

:o :rotfl:I wasn't honestly! Not sure why I even mentioned it, though it could be because I had no choice but to ring them at 10p a minute because their website is the worst website I have ever encountered in my lifetime  only 50p booking fee online but they make it impossible to do so, apparently £1.50 telephone booking in their terms and conditions but they actually charged me £1.95 cheeky blighters.

the mean person went out with my o/h for a game of pool and knowing my o/h had a birthday voucher made him use it so they could all save a bit of money, (my o/t wasn't even working at the time), then when his birthday came round he sneakily used it to pay for his round of drinks!
