Love Castle Archdale, stayed there last year for the first time and though it may be a wee bit busier than the likes of Deighans it is very lovely. I loved the fact that everyone was sitting outside barbecuing, having a wee drink etc, the bar was right behind us and i didn't find it too noisy at all.
We have a wee secret place too the owner looks a bit like Basil fawtly and can chat for ten row of teeth, but will go well out of his way to help you, anyone who's been to this site might know where i mean lol.
Stayed in Skerries in portrush but they have more rules than a prison, we booked in for NW 200 last year, when booking in they asked how many was in the van when i said five, a rather snooty woman on reception asked abruptly what berth my van was, whatever berth your van is thats all they allow to stay in it. {Could she not see the big five on the van?} No sleeping in awnings allowed either to name but just two of the rules . i am all for rules but Skerries take it to a whole new level.
Juniper Hill top end beside the railway track is dire we called it Hamburger Hill, hubby drives for a living and he nearly burnt the clutch out of the car trying to reverse in to the space we had, then it was a treasure hunt for bricks as we were on such uneven ground, i kid you not we must have had about five breeze blocks at the front of the van on the windiest weekend of the spring, we were sure we were gonna blow away:eek: . If you are in any way unfit forget it as you have to drag your water up a good bit of hill, and the vans are parked on top of each other, the bottom end of the site looked fine though.
Golden sands Benone is great they have fully serviced pitches, great for children but a bit busy if you are looking for a peaceful time.
Watertop open farm in Ballycastle is fantastic for younger children as they have animals, horse riding and a couple of different farm ride type things among other things.
Silvercliffs in Ballycastle is great for kids too as they have a swimming pool on site and if you fancy a wee drink or a bite to eat they cater for that too. Haven't been caravaning long as we were in Castlerock for 15 years in a static so look forward to hearing about some new sites.
Roll on the start of the season.:beer:0 -
Sahre Centre in Lisnaskea. Not many sites so prob would need to book. Has leisure centre and water/craft activities and is near Enniskillen and a few national trust places.0

I have been caravanning for about 6 yrs now and absolutely love it! Have had good and bad experiences. Tend to shy away from commercial sites as they are very busy and i like peace and quiet. Has anyone tried the caravan club CL sites - they work out at around £10 a night some have facilities, some basic my favorites are Cushervalley markethill and hilltop dungiven. Gosford and tullymore forest sites are lovely - fantastic walks and scenery. Rushin house has a beautiful setting and owners so friendly. Mullanskea in lisnaskea is spotless and very quiet, good base for touring fermanagh. Anyone need any help just pm me.
A good adult only site in the south of ireland is Lough Arrow near Boyle - very effieciently run and again spotless, bit of a hike to get there, but reasonably priced and the owners go out of their way to accommodate you.0 -
I have heard that Tollymore is to be leased out by the Forestry Commission to a private operator and redeveloped (overdue) - anyone know anything?
Many of these reviews confirm my experience and the fact that the site needs proper management and security. http://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Attraction_Review-g186478-d213453-Reviews-Tollymore_Forest_Park-Newcastle_County_Down_Northern_Ireland.html0 -
We only stay at the touring in the trees sites run by the Dept of Agriculture, you pay a yearly fee (£130) and need to be self sufficient in terms of electricity and loo, but they have a great family atmosphere. Motorhomes and Caravans welcome, you can stay a max of 3 nights at any of the sites, as many times as you like, so it is Brilliant value!DJWW - cos we won't let it!0

nice thread bobs. surprised it took until post 30 of moneysavers to get to touring in the trees. we used it in 2009 and loved it. we like to walk and the forests are handy for that. plus if we're away all day why pay for fancy services. many of the sites are often empty and the limited time rule is not strictly enforced. but others like springwell and gosford are very busy. some of them are near the formal forestry campsites and we never had trouble using showers etc. be warned though the permits are taken up early in the year. i looked last May and by then there were no more available for 2010. http://www.dardni.gov.uk/forestservice/index/publications/forest-leisure/touring-in-the-trees-caravan-sites-booklet.htm0
