Is it economical to buy a Honda Jazz 1.2?
Options
My dh and I must buy a 'new' car. Our budget is £3500-4000, but I am having real difficulty finding something in this price bracket. I am buying in NI which helps.
My dh wants either a 1L petrol, or a diesel, and it must be either Honda, Nissan, Toyota or VW before he will consider it.
I came across a Jzz 1.2 petrol, low mileage, perfect as far as I could see, but he says no. Am I missing something? It would have to cope with about 300 miles /week motorway driving.

If you use a small car for motorway miles you'll serious regret it....
It'll be uncomfortable, noisy, uneconomical and you'll be forking out for repairs all the time.
Town cars are just that for a reason.
For motorway miles buy a car that was designed for that purpose....
Vectra, Mondeo, Avensis, etc etc etc
My Vec eats up motorway miles like it was nothing, 200 miles to Bolton, join motorway, set cruise control, radio on, sit back, relax and wait.... 45+mpg, can't beat it.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

Utter tosh, a Jazz will be just fine on the Motorway.0 -
I'd try test driving on the motorway first to make your own mind up.
Regarding how economical it is, why not sit down and work out how much it will cost.
You can find the MPG and Co2 figures for each car then you can roughly work out some costs.0 -
If it does mostly motorway miles i personally would prefer a car with a larger power reserve (for just in case) but other than that i can't see why it would not be able to cope.
Obviously pushing a smaller engine harder has an impact on mpg but it should still be pretty reasonable.0 -
Agree with Inactive, a Jazz would be a great car to have in these circumstances. Small car on the outside but bigger than a Golf on the inside. They are very highly rated. What does your DH have against it? Is it Pink?0

Our 106 1.5 diesel returns the same (55mpg) on the motorway.
Does at least 300 miles a week on it.0 -
Not that it's pink. It's the engine size he doesn't want. He wants either a diesel or a 1L car. Going to look at a Polo sdi twist, 1.8 diesel, '04, 64k with full MOT for £3450, so I hope it's good 'cos i'm running out of time and options!
BTW,
I'd love a Jazz, it's like a tardis! But it's not my money, and I wouldn't be the one doing all the miles in it.Father Ted: Now concentrate this time, Dougal. These

Why does he want a 1l petrol if you do a lot of motorway miles?
I ask out of Morbid curiosity.0 -
Until you get the usual gearbox problems.
