Simple upgrade question with O2

I've been with O2 since their BT Genie days (so about 10 years). Always has a contract (12/18 months) and my last upgrade was to a iPhone 3G 18 months ago.
I knew it wouldn't be long before the new iPhone was released so when my renewal date came up on 29th May I went onto a simplicity deal @ £15 a month (1 month contract).
My question is, now the new iPhone has been announced, will I need to have a credit check carried out to go back onto a long term contract??

Hi there
I think the answer has to be "probably". They will look at you as a customer that is moving up from Simplicity to a long-term contact and with your IVA having only concluded this year, you'd be likely to be refused. They may take your history with them into account, so be prepared to be asked for a deposit of some kind rather than refused the phone.
If the phone is going to cost you £150 and they ask for a deposit on bills of £100, you may be better off selling your current iPhone on ebay, buying a £10 cheapie and saving up to buy the new iPhone outright. Then you can stay on the 1-month Simplicity and not be in debt to o2 and Apple for the phone. In the beginning, the universe was created. This made a lot of people very angry and was widely regarded as a bad move. The late, great, Douglas Adams.0 -

Thanks for the advice, we've got n easy way around it if they do credit check me, my girlfriend will just take a new contract out in her name and I'll give notice on my simplicity contract.
I'll wait to see how much the phone/tariff will be and take it from there.0 -

Is that just what you think or you know for a fact?0 -

If you ask O2 for your PAC code if your GF gets the new contract, you can switch the numbers over and keep your number - You may have to transfer your number to a PAYG sim from another provider then PAC it back to O2, but they should be able to advise you on this.In the beginning, the universe was created. They know for a fact. Which is indeed correct. You wouldn't be credit checked again. :beer:0 -
I tried to upgrade from Simplicity pay monthly yesterday and failed a credit check. So they do credit check for upgrades from sim only to full contract.
If you do your upgrade via the carphonewarehouse they will not credit check you, thats how i got round it.0 -
Conflicting views then! Some people are 100% sure you don't, others are 100% sure you do!
Anyone know the official line??0 -

Considering it's part of my job I would hope it's a fact.
Don't have a clue what happened to Toe Jam but you never get credit checked on an ugprade. I can only assume he is on a simplicity restriction preventing him from upgrading to a contract until 6 months has passed or the store haven't understood what he wanted.Work like you don't need money,Love like you've never been hurt,And dance like no one's watchingSave the cheerleader, save the world!0
