Dell con-artists

I would expect 'Next Business Day Exchange' to be quite expensive and make Dell better value than Evesham if that is what she's got. Whether its something a home user would feel worth paying for is another matter.
Are there discrepancies between the invoice and the actual spec?0 -

As for the warranty, the collect & return probably refers to the base unit. The next day exchange is probably for the monitor.
Didn't think of that. Yes you're probably right there hobo280 -
dell should have the details on their computers. Maybe ask them nicely exactly what she ordered and how much for then compare itSmile and be happy, things can usually get worse!0

Not that I can see - but there ARE discrepancies between what she was told she'd get when she spoke to them and ordered, and what actually appeared on the printed invoice with the machine :mad:A_Nice_Englishman wrote:I would expect 'Next Business Day Exchange' to be quite expensive and make Dell better value than Evesham if that is what she's got. Give them a call, see what they say. They may have recorded the conversation and be able to go back and re-listen to what the order was, and compare that with what she got.Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0

Is the price she agreed to to on the phone the same as the invoice?
As you know, I don't think you will get anywhere, but if you do decide to contact Dell there's some advice in this thread0 -
i think I know where the problem is.
They bought the bottom end of the dell range the 3100 and upgraded all theimportant bits like CPU, memory and hard drive but left all the none important bits like the optical drive, monitor and mouse. buying the base pc and upgrading it is an expensive way to buy a dell PC the upgrades are very expensive it is ualully better to buy the 5150 and get the bottom end thant he lower range 3100 and upgrade it.
Your friend made the desision to buy it unfortuantly she didnt ask the advice of anyone who may know somthing about pc's and could have advised her better. Everyone makes the mistake buys somthing has problems calls a friend who can sort itout and the friend tells them it is !!!!e I have been to so many people and feel really bad telling them but if I didnt I would also feel guilty and end up fixing the thing again soon. Everybody learns the hard way.
As for your Laptop and her pc you said you bought thetop of the range 18 months ago I bet it cost not much less than £540, you had the deal of free printer scanner and delivery if you had to buy these Items you would have paid another £150 maybe more you friend bought at the wrong time, dell always have offers on well almost always you got a good deal she got a bad one.
as for what can you do? not much she agreed to pay the money as did you with your laptop.0 -
I'm afraid I agree with the others. Dell have sold what your friend ordered if there was any discrepancy from what they ordered and what arrived it should have been taken up with Dell at the time.
Its just like my mother she wants do it all herself and will not ask for advice and sometimes ends up with totally inappropriate products. We all do it at sometime or another.0 -
You can find out the spec of the system as shipped by Dell by creating an account at Dell Support - http://support.euro.dell.com/support/ - and entering the Service Tag (number on base unit).0
