you can update by receiving and accepting the 'over the air' update or by manually updating via the computer and synching it.
btw have you done the software update that HTC released last week!!!!
current build number for the unbranded desire is 1.21.405.2 CL174215 (visible if you go to Settings/About Phone/Software Information).
over the air updates will be automatic but may be delayed depending on your synching schedule etc. but you can manually check it NOW.
If you are not on the current build then go to Settings/About Phone/System Software Update and hit the ‘check now’ button (if you are still due to download it then probably best if you’re on Wifi when doing so)
this takes a few minutes, then phone will shut itself off and restart. i think it asked me for permission to load the software somewhere in between. dont know what the update was about but apparently it fixes some software bugs present in the version we got when we bought the desire.
i think the froyo update will be similar procedure as well. if you dont get the 'over the air' update automatically then on the 23rd june you can do a manual check on the phone as described above or you can check on computer on http://www.htc.com/uk/supportdownloadlist.aspx?p_id=312&act=sd&cat=all then download the software and then synch your phone using the synch software that can also be found on the website (latest version of synch software released sometime in april)bubblesmoney :hello:0 -
Be careful of the latest firmware update some people have reported issues with it. Particularly people who have debranded their phones.
I have an unbranded Desire and it was fine on mine though.
I have a feeling that when Froyo is released for the Desire it will be very well publicised. You may have to wait though for your network to release a network specific version if your's is branded.It's my problem, it's my problem
If I feel the need to hide
And it's my problem if I have no friends
And feel I want to die0 -
Like previous Android releases, your phone will tell you when an update is available to download. However, a large upgrade like this is often phased amongst users, having everyone trying to download a large update at the same time will be bad news for the network.
There is however another method. When the update is made available, someone will usually capture the URL and post it on Android based sites for manual download on your PC. You simply download the file, copy the update.zip to your phone and reboot. It should pick up the update and install it.
Hopefully HTC will be able to stick to June 23rd.0 -

Froyo is highly unlikely to be released for the Desire on the 23rd June, it was a rumour that started due to this thread.
The only date range that HTC have confirmed as yet is the 2nd half of this year.0 -

I have just checked my desire and its showing the build number for my phone is
1.15.405.4 CL155070 so does that mean my desire has not had the update that came out last week?
I have done update phone but it came back saying there are no updates for my phone.
I have a Unlocked phone with a Orange sim in it.0 -

Mine is exactly the same, it is an unlocked phone with Virgin, I think the update may only have been for Vodafone?I am a mortgage adviser.You should note that this site doesn't check my status as a Mortgage Adviser, so you need to take my word for it. I am on T-Mobile with an unbranded and unlocked Desire and received the update last week so it's at least not limited to Vodafone.
They key thing to bear in mind is that Unlocked is not necessarily the same thing as Unbranded. i.e. you can have an Unbranded phone which is Locked and you can have Branded phone which is unlocked.
The issue with software updates for phone in general relates to Branding (not Locking) since if a phone is Branded then the network operator has to add their branded stuff into the updates prior to releasing them.
Another issue with Android phones is of course whether the handset manufacturer is using "stock" Android (unlikely) or whether (like HTC Sense for example) they have also added layers.
i.e.
Google release an Android version -> "stock" Android phones get update
time passes ->
HTC Release an updated -> Unbranded HTC models get update
potentially more time passes ->
Networks release Branded ROMs -> Branded HTC models get update
Hope that all makes sense.0 -

I heard T-Mobile update was later withdrawn. I got an update done manually like I described in my post at the beginning of this thread. But later others at three couldn't get the same update and lower version was being shown as most recent update, maybe the the three update got withdrawn too. That may be the reason some of us have a higher software number than others but all get notice that they have most recent version when they try manual updates.bubblesmoney :hello:0 -

Many thanks for that.

That is interesting if they have withdrawn the update. I wonder why. As you say though you can get it directly from HTC support.0
