Hurray, it's refreshing to hear some people haven't had a traumatic experience - makes me feel better at least! :T

    Hi there

We had a 3 seater and a 2 seater from them about 8 years ago. Still going strong although need to be replaced. No problem with service or delivery ALTHOUGH be very careful that they're not signing you up for PPI if you're on the pay nothing for the first year type deal. I found out we had it, although it was never mentioned at the time. I was a bit annoyed but it was my own fault for not noticing the little checkbox ticked on my form. The monthly payment is so low if you pay over 4 years that it wouldn't really occur to you that anything was added on top...ifkwim. I think there are new rules re PPI anyway but this was 8 years ago!

We bought a sofa (with two manual recliners), a separate single seater with an electric recliner and a separate foot stool.

We too were very worried about buying from DFS, but 8 months on from buying the furniture, they are genuinely as good as new. Okay, we don't have kids, but we do have a demented cat.

One of my concerns is that we didn't want the seat cushions to sag. We chose a set that had springs within the seat cushions (if that makes sense) rather than the cushions simply being foam filled. The furniture hasn't sagged, unfortunately I can't say the same about the wife.

There was a mark on the sofa when it first arrived; however this was due to a blemish caused by the leather. DFS sent out a guy, and although he couldn't do anything to magic away the mark, he used his inks to ensure it wasn't particularly visable.

Would I buy from DFS again - yes, although I'd still be wary.

Edit - We paid by credit card and didn't go with the DFS finance.

All I'd say is make sure you opt out of the PPI they include as standard, they're a finance company really, not a sofa expert!

We had a terrible experience. If I couldn't persuade a friend from buying from them I would at least recommend paying by credit card rather than dfs finance. At least then you have some more clout to demand a refund rather than a 'repair'.

I love my sofas. Had them over 4 years now and they still look as good as new. We paid £900 for a 2 and 3 seater leather sofa. We also have a 2 and a half year old and an 18 month old plus a mental ginger border collie the sofas have to contend with!

My PIL though - they bought just after mine and their suite looked old and battered within about 6 months - truly shocking quality. Stuffing gave way, the leather faded (wiped with a damp cloth the cloth took all the colour from the leather). They have had several call outs from DFS to put things right but to no avail.

I'm not sure if I was just one of the lucky ones but as I say, I love mine!

I had a good experience - no pressure sales in the store, they only spoke to me when I went to place my order - I was left to browse in peace. The sofa arrived within the timescales promised, and when the time came they rang a week in advance and arrange the delivery date. Delivered on time and very quickly. Very happy with the sofa now nearly a year on.

I also paid by credit card in case of any problems - of which there have been none.

My friend works for DFS, his job is repairing warranty claims, day in, day out.

I can tell you that he bought his own suite from somewhere else.

Many of their suites ( not all ) are poor quality imports from China.

They have recently sold out to another company.
  • We bought a 4 seater and a 3 seater leather sofas from them just over 6 years ago now. It wasnt one of their funky designs thats always in the sale, it was a classic style that actually went up in price over the years, but thats by the by.

We have had no problems with the sofas at all, theyre v sturdy, lovely soft leather and still look great now. Delivery was fine at the time, didnt take too long as I remember and we took out their finance over 2 years. We are v pleased with our purchase and look forward to a good few more years of comfort and use out of them yet.

My stepmum and I were refused entry - that's right, banned from DFS! :o:rotfl:

She wanted to go and take a look to get some ideas on the kind of thing she wanted to buy and we were stopped as we went through the doors. Apparently, they were having some kind of special event for specially invited people, not for the likes of us. The woman concerned turned us away with, "And you can't have any Bucks Fizz either!!!!" (Not that we wanted any, but never mind.)

It was probably our proudest moment. :D
