Underarm hair removal, I hate the shadow of shaving!

I shave my underarms at the mo but when a younger student I remember with much hilarity me and my housemate in the bathroom waxing my underarms - I could do my left one fine as am right-handed but always seemed to have trouble with the right one so got said housemate on hand!:D
I LOVED how smooth it was - I'm very dark haired and carried on doing it for a while and the reduction in hair was quite noticeable and is still the same even now a good ten years later. I didn't get any spots on the whole, the only very small drawback was the immediate tenderness following waxing which I found lasted overnight and then went. Oh and having to wait until the hair was long enough!
I do keep reading about epilators being rather good but not sure about shelling out for one in case they're not for me.Dealing with my debts!Currently overpaying Virgin cc -balance Jan 2010 @ 1985.65Now @ 703.63

I tweezer mine - pain in the bottom, gives me a headache, but is effective

Was it expensive? I've been considering it but assumed it would be really expensive so I haven't looked too much in to it.
I had IPL on my bikini line - 6 sessions cost around £500 so yes it is expensive! I used to get awful shaving rash - I find now I only occasionally get it. It didnt stop regrowth totally, but there is less. I found it absolute agony to be honest but do think it was worth doing.0 -
I can not handle pain so waxing is out for me but I found a cream that is brill, it is magic hair removal cream sold on ebay (thats were I buy mine anyway).
I always had problems with sore bumps and shadows with shaving, especially bikini area, but this works in 5 mins and no nasty smell :j and I have not had any problems since I started using it
It was made for black mens faces so it has to be good for anywhere else

Have been pondering this now for the past week or so, as shaving doesn't seem ot be as effective as it used to be on me. May invest in an epilator based on the above suggestions - thanks

For those still shaving under arms (I can hack bikini and leg waxing but turn into a baby at my underarms!) my tip is to use Olive Oil instead of shaving cream!
Its cheaper than shaving cream, you get a closer shave, no shadow or red bumps and is good for your skin

A question for epilator users. When I do my armpits it seems to be grabbing at my skin making it sore and bleeding and not really getting much of the hairs. I have really given it a go to grin and bear it and it hasn't even got rid of all the hair. What am i doing wrong?0

The easiest way i found to do it is too pull the armpit towards you tight.
So the armpit i'm doing i use the same arm hand and pull the skin taught as it will go, so really you are pulling it over as far as it will go and it sort of goes quite flat then, i found i can get 90% out this way and it leaves less damage
but it takes practice and fingers crossed you should get a better epilation.
Good luck x0 -

You could try also reaching round the back of your head to the opposite ear - has the same effect of pulling the skin taut.0 -
I've had 4 sessions of IPL for legs, bikini and under arm. It does seem to work kind of but I think my bikini and underarm is slowly growing back. I'm thinking about going down the epilator route now as it would be cheaper.
So the Braun silk one has been recommended... any other ones out there that we should investigate?Man plans and God laughs...Perhaps travel cannot prevent bigotry. But by demonstrating that all people cry, laugh, eat, worry and die, it introduces the idea that if we try to understand each other, we may even become friends.0
