Underarm hair removal, I hate the shadow of shaving!

What do you lurvely ladies do?
I have shaved for ever, but now, perhaps due to being in my 30s  I have a horrid shadow, the skin is a little bumpy and unpleasant and I want to have smooth, skin coloured, unhairy pits.....

I did veet it the other day but found it didn't work as well as shaving.
Should I grit my teeth and wax it for the first time? I can bear my eyebrows and had babies with no pain relief.......
Any tips?

Honestly? Underarm waxing isn't that bad. Yes, it stings for a second or two, but it's nothing unbareable and certainly worth the few weeks of no shaving.
The bad point is, of course, that you have to leave the hair to grow a few mms long so that the wax can grip it!
OR, you could buy an epliator. It's effectively the same, the hair is removed by the root and you stay smooth for quite a little while. It's sometimes easier to have someone else doing it when you're not expecting it though, IYKWIM?0 -
I epilate my underarms. The first couple of times, it hurrts like hell, but after that, it gets better. Now, it doesnt hurt at all, and the regrowth is very fine. Persevere with it, though!"It's official, MSE's harbouring total fruitcakes">^..^<0

I epilate my underarms also, my only problem is I find it doesn't pick up every one ... so I get my tweezers on them!Gone ... or have I?0

Indeed - epilation is the way to go. My epilator has a second "beginners" head which doesn't grab as many hairs at one time as the usual head. Makes it much less painful until you get used to it!
Most of my underarm hair has given up the struggle now anyway
which is brilliant and what little is left is much finer and lighter than it was. 0 -
Wax! Tried it for the first time...yes, it stings but only for a few seconds, but it is VERY effective

ohhh this is the question i have been asking random people too so great to have it being discussed here too.
Im a shaver but want something better and closer.
seen that wet and dry epilator advertised on tv and like the idea that you dont have to have really long hair as there is no way I could let it grow like that.
Do those of you with epiators find that its effective and short stubbly hair or does it have to be long like waxing????Eleventh Heaven no 710 - we can all dream0 -
I'm really struggling with my epilator under the arms. It bleeds and becomes so sore. Do you think using tweezers a little inbetween shaving might "toughen" me up to make the epilator less painful? I can't imagine ever getting used to it, but I know that I do like epilation. Its great to not have to keep shaving everyday.0

First time I had my underarms waxed they bled and were so sore for 48 hours I could hardly bear to have my arms by my sides and as for deoderant.. No way!
You will toughen up - the longer the hair the more painful it is so try doing it on shorter hair and do a small area at a time, over a couple of days if necessary. It may also help to apply a hot flannel before hand to open the pores a little ( or use an ice pack to numb the area - heat worked better for me).0
