i just had my first baby 10 days ago!!
oh my god!!!
the midwife told me i would be pushing for an hour, after 1 push i thought sod that and had her out in 20 minutes.
that going to the loo was going to be worse than the birth, and that everyone wants to know if you've pooed yet... erm none of your business!
i only had gas and air and it was great, like free vodka on the nhs, i was sleeping between my contractions (1 min apart!) and talking absolute c&@p like a drunk.
that you start off all demure with a sheet over your bits when you first get examined and by the end you flash your bits at everyone whether they want to see them or not!0 -
Best kept secrets?
Hmmmn
1)That you can get stretchmarks all the way down the backs of your legs as well as round your boobs, stomach and hips. Even the midwife was shocked!
2)That not all first babies go overdue, thought I had a couple of weeks left at least and consequently ended up packing my hospital bag inbetween contractions!
3)That pethidine can make you really, really ill, would never have had it with DD1 if I'd known that.
4)That you aren't a horrid, evil person if you don't get the 'love at first sight' feeling when you finally see bubba, and that it doesn't always 'suddenly all feel worth it'.
5)That if you bite on the mouthpiece of the gas and air too hard you can freeze your jaw up and not be able to move it for days afterwards!
6)That big babies can be a really dark (almost black) purple colour due to the pressure they are under during birth and that family will all recoil in horror when they visit expecting a pretty pink baby like the first one.
Edited because I felt like I was having too much of a whinge!:heart2: Mumma to DD 13yrs, DD 11yrs & DS 3 yrs. :heart2:0 -
This isn't a worst kept secret, but more a question for you experienced ladies.
I'm having very regular braxton hicks and my baby is dropping, not sure how far engaged but I can feel him in my pelvis. At last look my notes said 3/5ths but that was a few weeks back now.
Do the braxton hicks getting more frequent (usually 1-2 most hours) mean anything or could I still be here in 3 weeks time?
I know how long is a piece of string?? Just wondered really.0 -

DD2 was a 10lb bruiser. OH and family were rather surprised (to say the least) that when first introduced to Buddah Baby she was dark skinned with black hair - bearing in mind the the first four children (mine, his and ours - blended family) were all fair skinned gingers  My little brother even said "Oooo look! *****'s had a black baby." He was 10 at the time, subtlety has never been his strong suit.
24 hours later she became lovely pink (and strangely rather spotty). Within a few weeks all her black hair fell out and months later she sprouted the ginger/brown hair she loves. Fortunately she's the spitting image of her brother otherwise the Aunties tongues would heave been wagging:rolleyes:
The midwives said that genetically she favours my side of the family. My Dad had ginger hair as a youngster, but my Mum's hair [STRIKE]is[/STRIKE] was jet black and she has quite olive skin.
You cannot live as I have lived an not end up like me.

After giving birth to my gorgeous son Luke on the 21st October, I would say that giving birth is really not that bad, well, not as bad as I thought it was going to be anyway!
1 lot of pethidine and copious amounts of gas & air and 5 hour labour, and only had to push for an hour.**Trying my best to be the best that I can**

A friend of mine had an 11lb 3oz boy and delivered him OK, that's the biggest baby I know of other than my DD2 who was also a natural birth. No experience of tranverse though, do they think she might turn yet?:heart2: Mumma to DD 13yrs, DD 11yrs & DS 3 yrs. :heart2:0 -
The Professionals must have forgotten to tell me about ... darn it, I forget the medical term ... being surgically cut as a precaution against tearing. Anyway, I did NOT appreciate having stitches 'down there' ...
... and when I went for my post-natal check-up the nurse whistled through her teeth and exclaimed: "At a guess I'd say a male member of staff did those sutures".
Oh joy! :eek:0
