So what else is out there?
I'm just looking to pick peoples brains as to what else is out there at the moment. I had been looking at the HTC Desire but with it being so pricey and since I've been on 02 Simplicity I like the idea of buying handsets rather than being on an 18 or 24 month contract. Anyway as i mentioned I had been looking at the Desire but I was wondering if I really need a smartphone, I'm not sure I'd even scratch the surface of what it can do and it's just my gadget geek side rearing it's head. I have also ruled out an Iphone since I bought a 32 gb Touch in January when my other Ipod kicked the bucket.
Although I do like my Nokia 5800 it's showing wear and tear and the screen and or the screen lock is causing a screen "blur" which makes it unuseable at times.
Anyway after all the waffle I'm just wondering what else people would suggest outside of the Desire/Iphone war. I enjoy having the wi-fi on my phone but I'm not too bothered about the camera quality.

Htc legend? ITs a "mini" desire with similar features etc, just not quite as powerful or expensive.
What is your budget?Back by no demand whatsoever.0 -
Sorry, yeah it might have helped if I had mentioned that. Ideally I'd like to go to around £200, but would have some wiggle room. I paid about that for the 5800 on ebay, someone was flogging their brand new upgrade.0

as your a o2 customer if you can put an extra £80 in the budget you might be able to call up o2 and ask for the desire simfree as a replacement handset.0

please note the samsung wave (2nd link) is the worlds first BADA operating system phone. so you will be the guinea pig with hardly any apps available as per reports.bubblesmoney :hello:0 -
Cheers, but I'm looking to buy outright (don't want a long contract) so both of those are out of my price range as sim free's.0

then see the htc wildfire thread https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/2517123
the htc hero should still be a good phone, prices might be cheap now. the 2.1 software update was released a few days ago (for gsm version) in taiwan (the cdma version was released a month or so ago in usa) so the hero owners in the uk should shortly get the long awaited 2.1 update for it so that the phone becomes much more faster and capable as well. before the 2.1 update hits the uk (Very soon) there still might be deals to be had on the hero. but i dont think the hero will get the newest 2.2 update ever. there are some good samsung phones on the market and very sleek and affordable with loads of features too.bubblesmoney :hello:0 -
Ah see that's the problem I'm trying to avoid. Getting a phone where it won't get fixes or updates. I know you run that risk with every phone, a new one will be out and the manufacturer will focus on it's new beau. Obviously working on a budget means beggars can't be choosers, I'm stuck between not wanting something that's old hat and knowing that in about 15 months time my phone will have taken a batterring and I'll be needing a new one anyway. I've never really been a fan Samsung phones. Took an irrational dislike to them after getting a E700 in an upgrade and spending 12 months loathing it.
I might bide my time another month or so and stick the extra into my budget and get the Desire, I thought I read somewhere that the Desires that 02 were sending out on the £280 deal were returns or ones that had been faulty. If that's the case I'm officially bamboozled.
Edit: Apologies if people think I'm poo-pooing their suggestions out of hand. I'm just jotting down thoughts as I go on. The indecision and fence sitting is run of the mill for me when I'm trying to buy things.0
