Worming is fine every month if your animal scavenges or is at high risk for any reason (ask your vet if you don't believe me!). The wormer included in some flea products that are applied monthly is given monthly anyway (e.g. Advocate).

Also a lot of flea treatments used today are non-systemic so they don't course through your pet's body, they mix into the oils of the coat (e.g frontline and advantage). This is not true for the ones that include wormers though.

Boosters are a must if you want pet insurance or for Kennels during Holidays although I do believe it can be done once every two years rather then every year.

The Flea treatment I do once every three months on the cats and not monthly as the companies suggest. My cats are indoor ones anyway. The pup gets her Flea treatment every 6 weeks though as she mixes with other dogs in the park and on the road.

Worming is done once every 3 months because all my pets are on a Raw food diet.

However when I was growing up our family pets never had boosters and they all died of old age. The cats were outdoor cats as well.

I've my pup her first vaccinations and cat his. I worm and flea every month, on advice of vet and my own, this is only beacuse my cat is outdoors cat and my pup is walking in the forest with me every day.

Though I know family memebrs that have only got their pets first vaccines and all are heqalthy and never had more than earmites.
  • I don't think that boosters are a must for my insurance policy, rather the policy will not cover any illnesses which should have been vaccinated against more regularly than they were (according to vet guidelines).

I keep swinging back and forth on the yearly boosters debate. It is hard to know who to listen to!

I get them vaccinated and boostered each year (just done inclu Feline Leukaemia). But I only do flea and worming in summer as a token gesture. Vet is fully aware and agrees that it would be pointless. This is a 100% indoor high rise home as far as pets are concerned with new carpets and no contact with other animals or raw food.

we did vaccinate our dogs for 10 years then I stopped. Financial reasons. Cats have had first shots and then none. I do worm them cos they eat mice. Ferrets havnt been vaccinated we decided not to walk them on leads outside the garden.

My first question would be did you get this information from a reputable source or was it someone with another agenda? Most information I have read about not giving vaccinations when recommended has come from sources with other agendas or hearsay from owners. My advice is question everything you read and research the author and check what other things they have done and any affiliations.

As FC and others have said vaccinations are preventative when they get the illness its too late. You can't really compare a Human Tetanus vaccine with any one for an animal. Vaccines for different illnesses and different species work
differently. It could be like comparing the Human Flu vaccine (yearly as it changes) with an MMR vaccine. Unless you have qualifications in Immunology and biochemistry you cannot really make the decision based on rumour and assumptions. The best decision is by going with the biggest body of evidence for the vaccinations you are looking at doing. Also speaking to professionals which in this case are the vets

It could be argued that vets and the companies that have the research also have another agenda. I have had enough cases of my animals being treated incorrectly by vets (including the best reputed vets in my city) not to trust what they say. The best decision is the one that suits myself and my animals. Animal medicine is in no way as advanced as human medicine and I have enough experience behind me not to trust someone just because they have a qualification to be a vet. I am not about to risk my ferrets lives by vaccinating them every year, because as I have stated already, the risk of reactions to vaccines in ferrets is so high. And yes, several vets I have spoken to recommend vaccinating ferrets every other year at most.
  • i have recently lost my 2 year old border jack to parvo she had her puppy jabs but not her boosters, i have 2 other dogs that was behind on the jabs aswell but didnt catch it as they was older(they are now fully up to date)

i know its no excuse but life and money does sort of get in the way sometimes and its always on the list of things to do but having experienced having to watch your loving little dog die from parvo and knowing i could have prevented it was horrific

i know they can still get it even if they have the jabs but knowing she didnt stand a chance against it because i didnt keep up to date.

the vet did say that even if the animal doesnt go out you still bring it into the house, and also for a few weeks after i didnt let anyone in my house who has animals

i had 5 cats that lived to the ripe old age of 15 they never had jabs but all died of thyroid problems but was to old to have them removed, they was part stray so was very sterdy hardy animals

i keep up to date on wormer but sometimes abit lax on the flea
