Not so uncommon after all then
After they built a lovely new shopping area, for some unknown reason they set the security tag codes the same for several of the shops. I bought something in 'Game' no problem, nipped into WHSmiths, bleeeeeeep! I didn't mind them sifting through my bags, nothing foundwent to leave - bleeeeep!
Long story short, on a book I had bought in 'Game' *after* I'd removed the cellophane air tight wrapper, on the inside of the cover was the security strip which had been setting off all the alarms
What is more concerning is the frequency (excuse the pun) that this is happening and as a consequence the apathy from some shops/security because *they* are getting so used to the false alarms they don't always stop or look into it!~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

In a well run company,if the alarms go off, the staff should say
"I am sorry ,we appear to have left a security tag on your purchase.Could we see the receipt so we can establish which member of staff served you."
By mentioning the word purchase they are emphasing your innocence. This is so simple to do,but very rarely happens.Shops that care keep a log of staff who persistantly leave tags on (ok i know staff are worked very hard, but there has to be some limit).Staff can,in theory be told they could lose their bonus(if very lucky enough to be offered one).
re tags INSIDE a product, this is quite normal and a boon against shoplifters. The deactivating machine bonds the tag together via heat sealing (bad explaination) so that it doesnt go off.Thats if its been deactivated properly.0 -
Some staff do take the pi*s with them though. I remember seeing a security guy placing them in the most obscure places on clothing, in bags, on electrical products. This was to make it harder for the shop lifter to find, but was also a problem for the checkout assistant to find and de tag as well. There is no need to run outside

About 10 years ago my DH bought a new suit for his friends wedding from Burtons. On the day of the wedding when he put it on the trousers still had the plastic security tag attached to them. We phoned the shop and they told us to use a very strong magnate but we couldn't find one strong enough, so on the way to the wedding we had to go via Burtons to have them remove the tag. They couldn't understand why it never set off the alarms when we left the shop.0

What a nightmare you had !!
Well I work as a nurse and my patients have pacemakers. They have to be careful as it can set off alarms in shops or could develop a fault. The advice I was given is to tell them not to loiter in the doorway, wallking through double electric doors for a quick exit.
Maybe this is why the alarm did not go off ?:A0 -
My brother bought a new suit for a funeral on Thursday but only realised the tag was still on when he got to the wake (it was on the inside of the suit). Funnily enough the same thing happened to my mother on the same day only with a pair of trousers, but she had time to get it removed.£2 coin savers club - £68 - £90 paid off credit card0
