security tags

i bought some jim-jams for my daughter today in woolies. it didnt have a security tag on it but what i assume is some kind of magnetic thing on the tag that is meant to be deactivated when paying for the item.

as i left the shop the alarm went off but they waved me through. when i was in there on monday i saw a woman leave the shop and the same happen to her, they waved her through telling her that the deactivating thingy wasnt working.

so then (today) i toddle off to sainsburys, activated the alarm upon entering the shop. took no notice got me shopping and then activated the alarm on attemtping to leave the shop (i paid for my shopping btw lol) no sign of security but could see the woman on the customer services desk looking at me so i went over, explained about woolies and the jim-jams and she asked to see my receipt for woolies and see what was in my woolies bag.

what i cant understand is why she didnt give a damn what id bought in sainsburys i could have stolen something for all she knew. she just wanted to look in my woolies bag.

and then i activated the sodding alarms in boots :rotfl: though they were understanding as theyve had quite a few woolies customers aparently.

ha ha. I will share with you my moment with the alarms.
Went into a certain supermarket, amongst my shopping i purchased a large pack of durex condoms .As i was exiting ,the alarms went off.I immediately knew what it was,cos i know they tag these items, and all the rest of my stuff was groceries.

When the male assistant approached me, I said i knew what it was.I said it was "perfume".He then asked to see my receipt.Obviously there was no "perfume" on my receipt.
He then thought I had stolen something, so tried to delve into my bag.I know he cant do this without my permission, so i said " you dont search my bag, i will take it to a female member of staff" As i walked rapidly towards the nearby Customer Services desk, he followed, thinking i was definitely going to do a runner or suchlike . My embarrassment was finally complete when the female assistant declared something like "MULTI PACK OF DUREX £9.99" Loudly to the male sales assistant, in the style of the cashier off the Victoria Wood sketches.

When I worked in retail we had the bleeper things at the doors to stop people thieving - not that it did any good! - and people were often coming in who had bought stuff from nearby music shop and making it buzz, and we would have to deactivate the stuff for them. I remember one time the local Boots deactivator wasnt working and all day we had people coming in from there - we were practically next door - it got so irritating by the end of the day all I could hear when trying to get to sleep was beep beep beep!

I kept setting alarms off in various stores and I had absolutely no idea why.

I got really fed up with it one day after PC World insisted on looking in my bags and all the other customers were staring at me. When I got home I emptied everything out of my handbag and discovered the card backing from a packet of batteries lurking at the bottom, with one of those sticker tags on. I had paid for the batteries when I bought them, but the cashier must have forgotton to de-activate it.
Here I go again on my own....

    we found the culprit.

took the tags off the jim-jams and theres a bit of cardboard on there saying 'security' something or other. if you hold it to the light you can make out a metallic disc. obviously the magnet thing.

why therefore they couldnt cut it off when i purchased the item instead of just waving me through i dont know.

might take it out with me for a bit of fun in sutton high street though, hide it in my shoe.

proove that everythingis bought and paid for then complain about being treated like a crim and maybe just maybe get some kind of compo

    hahahahahaha

    or would this be wrong?

I set the alarm off in woolies today too! Their security tags are cardboard and when I returned to the check out desk the assistant just ripped it off the outfit - not much use really!!

Ages ago I bought something in Boots and they didnt realise it had a security tag on - I bleeped all through the shops!!!!!
  • I bought a top a few weeks ago in Tesco which I planned to wear for an interview. I didn't realise at the time but it had an ink type security tag on it and they didn't remove it. No alarm activated as I went out of the store. When I got ready for the interview the next day I noticed the tag but couldn't take the top back as I was out of time. Had to change the outfit I planned to wear, very annoying!

Was in Tunbridge Wells last Xmas, taking my 4'9" 62 year old mother shopping for Christmas.

We got some clothes from a sports shop and they forgot to swipe the tag.

On leaving the store the bleeper went off and two huge security guards came running towards my mum and nearly flattened her and stopped her going any further until she proved she had paid, in front of a packed precinct.

Not even an appology after she showed them the receipt.

Had I had my wits about me I would have refused to let them see the receipt as we knew we had paid and then seen what happened as legitimately they have no powers to stop you AFAIK.

My other half had this for ages after she bought a new bag, would set off the detectors in various stores on the way in and out, almost cured her of shopping (almost lol).

It was finally some nice people at PC World that managed to deactivate the damn thing.

This happened to DW a while back and it was actually traced down to the handbag she was using (so that one went to the charity shop). I have also had a similar problem (and still do in some shops) the problem is the security tag that allows me into the office that I keep in my wallet.
