i have been searching online everywhere for loans for students,i found thousands of pages for loans for Uni students but not for college students.
i am wanting to borrow a few thousand to pay for my chef whites, new, decent knife set, a car, lessons, insurance ect as im in a bit of a vicous circle. i have no job and im REALLY, REALLY wanting to get back into work as i hate it when there is nothing to do or im not rushed of my feet. i love being a chef and i cannot do what i love as there is simply no Catering jobs in my town, however, there are loads in the places around me, like Bristol, Cheltenham ECT. but there is very unreliable and limited travle to and from these places. i need a loan to get me a cheap car that would get me to work and back. a car would help make my future basically and i need a loan for that.
i want one of those loans that you dont start paying it back untill you are in work. does anyone know of any sort of loan that i would be elligable?
here are some factors to consider:
. I'm 18
. Im in my second year at college studying my Level 2 diploma and am going on to my level 3 in sept
. I live in a council house with my mother
. She gets child tax credits for me
. our household income is less than £15,000
. There are jobs available to me, but 50miles away!
anymore info needed just ask!
Thanks to anyone that could help! :j
any sort of help for someone like me?
i did ask this question in the loans section, but due to lack of response,i will post here and hopefully get a better response

I think the loan you are referring to is the Student Loan which is meant to support you through University. My daughter uses hers for accommodation and books etc she needs to complete her course and graduate. I'm not aware of any alternative schemes available to provide a car. insurance, kit etc but I'm not an expert. If there is one I'd love to hear about it as Ive got 6 other kids looking for the same0

Asa, I really do sympathise with your aspirations and your wish to better to yourself.
I would hope that your college woudl not expect a 2nd year student to come up with brand new whites, check ebay maybe?
You haven't qualified yet and as far as I am aware there is no way in the world you are going to get a government funded loan to cover you for a car plus insurance.
I hope someone's going to come along and prove me wrong here0 -

i have got my Introduction to Diploma in Proffetional Cookery Level 1, currently finshing my Diploma Level 2 and would be going on to my level 3 next year (these courses are seperate btw)
i was a little sad to see that there is little or no help for someone like me looking for something like that.
im a fast growing lad and have had my whites since my first year (half paid by princes trust) and they need to be emroided and be a certain size, so we have to get ours from Russums.
my grandparents i would say are well off (my grandpa was a warrant officer class 1 in the RAF for 35yrs) but i have only ever borrowed a hundred quid of him and felt really bad for asking, so no family can help.
Looks like its the old bank robbery for me . . .:rotfl:
all i need is bassically one of those uni loans, where you dont start paying untill you are earning a certain ammount, as i need the funding to get me a car and need the car to get me a job and need the job to pay for the car and buy me some clothes! My only credit: Contract phone for £25 p/m they gave me (no joke!) 3x 8gb micro sd's, 1x extra battery, 1x spare charger, SIXTY QUID CASH!, TWENTY FIVE POUND CHEQUE!, 2x 2gb micro sd's, SE Satio, 300mins, 3000txts, unlimited internet! from P4U too! :beer:0 -

I'm truly hoping you are not pulling the P here. You don't qualify love. There are a lot of people who need the same as you and more0 -
Do you get EMA?
Have you thought about getting a part time job - any job just to get some income coming in?
If you can actually prove you need the whites and don't have the money, you could approach the hardship fund at your college.0 -

the whole point of the loan is for a car so i can get a job, there is simply no jobs suitable for me near me. i really do want a job.
and yes i do get EMA, but that only just covers my weekly expenses.
i already owe college £150 because of the EMA problems back in 2008
oh and what does pulling the "p" mean?

Your request seems so unrealistic that some of us suspect that you are on a wind up.
However, whether you are serious or not, there is no possibility of your getting a student loan whilst doing any of your courses, so you need to give up the idea. Whilst I am sure that there are more jobs in larger towns/cities, the advantage of studying catering is that even rural areas have pubs where you should be looking for a job to get relevant experience and to allow you to save up for a car when you leave.0 -
You said there were no catering jobs around you - I was talking about any job just to get some money coming in.
Whereabouts are you? There will be jobs but they may not be ones you'd chose.
There is no easy solution so I'm afraid you need to do what most other people your age do: use public transport or work in a different job until you can save some cash.
I fear you are on a slippery slope already as you owe money before you've even started earning and now want to borrow even more before you actually bring any in.
Maybe you need to look at the debt some on here have and see how easy it is to get out of your depth once you start borrowing?0 -
If you ask at the job centre there is a scheme to help young people who need transport to get a job. It is for a motorbike or scooter I think, I don't think you have to pay anything, they lend you the bike. I don't know alot about it but a young employee of mine got one. You probably have to be signing on to get it but you might be able to sign on for the summer if you are ending one course and waiting to start another, sorry I dont know about that for sure, but it is worth asking. Good luck, I know it is hard if you live out in the sticks and stuck for transport.Sell £1500
