Hands may come into contact with millions of germs every day. But have you ever thought about those germs ending up on your soap pump? Fact: Your soap pump can harbour hundreds of bacteria.

Introducing the DETTOL No-Touch Hand Wash System, it automatically senses your hands and dispenses just the right amount of soap that kills 99.9% of bacteria.
For use in the kitchen or bathroom, the antibacterial hand soap is enriched with moisturising ingredients to care for your hands. Available in three premium fragrances: Hydrating Cucumber Splash, Cleansing Green Tea & Ginger, and Refreshing Grapefruit Essence.
Never touch a germy soap pump again.

...........................................................................................................................................

:o Am I alone in thinking this is a prime example of the marketing men promoting a product by playing on our fears of 'germs' and other invisible cooties??? The big selling point seems to be that it can sense you hands and delivers a blob of handwash without you having to touch it......

Or am I just lucky that I haven't endangered my health by using standard handwash dispensers with the risk if contaminating my hands with the germs that are apparently lurking on the bit you press down to get the stuff out the bottle? :o

I find it extraordinary that the manufacturers feel that there is a gap in the market for this type of product - even if you remove 99.9% of surface bacteria by washing with this stuff, the minute you touch anything - you're re-contaminated :p Style over substance methinks!

Personally - I shall continue to live dangerously by washing my hands with 'Basics' bar soap - does a grand job and 3 bars for 16p is within my budget :rotfl:

At £7.99 each - I suppose that they have got to go for the unique selling angle!

What do you think?

LOL I found it a bit mad! The thing I thought was strange was that if you think about it you only press the bit on the hand wash before you start to wash your hands so surely, the act of washing your hands will take off the bacteria. Mind you I can't talk...just came in from the garden and even after washing them my fingernails are black- will need to soak it off in the bath!

A great idea for my disabled oh who cannot pick up soap or operate soap pump dispenser, and cheaper than the only other alternative at 29.99 from simplehuman

excellent idea for those with disabilities, I agree, but marketed to be used in the home by the whole family - who presumably touch each other, kiss each other etc. etc. without a full body defumigation each time. The best thing about summer in our house is the water fights - at least I know my manky 10 yr old gets some water on his skin voluntarily. I must be a terribly dirty parent, mother, wife and human being! I do know some parents who will be the first to get this - and they're the ones who don't let their kids get disgracefully dirty in the first place!

My twelve year old, who is normally devoid of logic, asked what purpose this served as any germs you picked up when touching the top of an ordinary dispenser would be washed off anyway when you washed your hands.

It gave me reason to believe there is indeed hope for her! I do agree with others about the possibilities for the disabled but it's not marketed as such.

My question was surely there will be germs lurking on the taps too, so after washing with the superduper soap thingy you still have to turn said taps off

I think that you need automatic taps not automatic soap dispensers if you are going down the route of their logic. As we have survived this long I think that we will manage without either though.

No, you're not alone, charlies-aunt! It's utter madness and I get fed up with all this fussing about germs. Basic, sensible hygiene is common-sense, but this is taking it to a whole new level of madness.

And what about the Vanish advert -apparently even when you've got stains out of your laundry, there may still be germs lurking there that could harm your child!!! Give me strength!

I would much rather children had access to germs than disinfectant sprayed in their faces, as in I believe the Dettox ad.

I find all this hysteria about anti-bac this and anti-bac that very, very interesting. I think it's tapping into some very serious unease about things other than normal, boring old germs and viruses but I haven't been able to put my finger on it yet.

The Victorians were troubled by sex and one form of purity and we're troubled by another, or rather we're being advertised to in order to exploit this unease. It's all very strange
