Hi all
Well back from holiday and just had my tesco order delivered £110!!! But that includes enough milk and flour, yeast etc for bread for rest of month as well as all amin ingredients needed for rest of months meal plan.
Need to buy a couple of whole chickens, stewing steak and pork steak from butcher at fridays market so that should cost about £15 but should have extra portions to put in freezer. Then need fruit and veg but gonna go to local greengrocer for this and not pop into somerfield as too tempting.
So budget for half month £175 (due to hols 1st - 12th sept) so now have £65 left.
Fingers crossed0 -
Aaargh just spent £10 over two lunchtimes on sandwiches ect and a magazine  Can't believe I did that what a waste :wall:
Really must tighten belt and leave purse at home :doh:MFiT Member No 85

Ok, Ive just sorted out my receipts and am about to update my signature. I didnt think I was doing that well and Ive just confirmed that Im not!
Have only £54.59 left until 1/10. Thought September would be a good month for me as kids going back to school etc but have been even more disorganised and behind than normal. Have been a bit 'fed up' so have let things slide. However today is the start of the rest of my life etc etc and will try my best to stay in budget for the rest of the month. Think will mainly do this by having a good sort in the freezer over the weekend and meal planning from there and by not 'popping' to the supermarket for a couple of bits.
Anyway fingers crossed0 -
Ended up popping to Aldi at lunch time with a colleague (what an interesting life I lead eh?):rotfl:
Spent £3.27 on few bits n bobs for store cupboard so not too bad I suppose but has upped my total grocery spend to £172.56:eek:
This means I now have £27.44 to last until next Friday:eek:
Hope I can manage - will have to buy fresh salad for my lunches for next week unless I can find something diet friendly in the cupboards for lunch!!Official DFW Nerd - Member 408 - Proud to be dealing with my debts!0 -
I'm trying to stay on a strict shopping budget, but the idea of walking around Tesco with a calculator and a wad of cash sends shivers down my spine. What is working for me is using the Tesco/Sainsbury/Waitrose home delivery websites.
Why?
It's a doddle to find the BOGOF items to shove in the freezer.
If you work out a weekly menu while you search, you can buy more cheaply - so if they have BOGOF on broccolli, make sure you plan 2 meals to use it up.
If you do a search on something like tinned tomatoes, you'll see the whole range, and be able to pick the cheapest - for example, Napolina ones are 45p, Tesco value are 17p. Call me old-fashioned, but if it's going into a spag bol, why do I need to pay nearly 30p more??
I know some of you money savers will hate the idea of paying a delivery charge - but I've been doing this for the last couple of months, and it's certainly working for me. It takes far less time to shop and I'm not tempted to add treats into my shopping basket which would cost more than the delivery. Also, with Tesco, the delivery cost gets lower, the more in advance you want the delivery.
I was horrified when I added up how much I spent on food in a month - sometimes £400+ for 2 adults, 2 cats, 1 dog. Now I'm limiting us all to £260, and so far, so good.
The only fly in the ointment is the cats. We're fine with own-brand stuff, the dog is fine with own-brand food (half the price of Baker's complete, and looks identical to me) but no-one seems to do an own-brand version of Whiskas sachets for 2 cats. If anyone has any suggestions.....??0 -
i've not got the hang of this yet. but as im only in my 1st month i suppose its still a learning curve for me.
I really will have to get the hang of menu planning etc my problem is a friend has given me a lift to tesco on friday morning today and last week, so i do a shop there before ive actually budgeted what money i need for other stuff, i must rethink my shopping stragety.SPC~12 ot 124

Shortie wrote:Rubber chicken tonight. 2 for £5 from the local butchers. Fed 3 adults for a roast, and meat left for 4 freezer portions - either for stir fry, curry or pasta bake each. I'm also boiling the bones and gristle away as we speak for a soup, to later add the last of my garden veg's (carrot, spring onion, onion, potatoes and runner beans)
What is rubber chicken???
Anyway, I have completely failed! Thanks to my Granma giving me a new big chest freezer I went to shops to fill it up and spent £68.04!!
Oh well, better luck next time!
Good luck to everyone else!
Edit:
Just cheered myself up, just realised, even thou I've spent £94.91 in shopping this month, its still cheaper than my usual £120-£140. And works out to just £23.72 a week.Debt Free as of 17/01/2009 Turtle Power!!
