o2 contract - calling greece from uk - im not getting charged

hi

my g/f has been in crete this week on holiday and we have been calling each other on our 02 contract mobiles, we know this would be expensive, however i got 2 x £10 phonecards to use to cut down the costs.

anyway the calls i made to her without the phonecards did not require a international code, which i found strange, i did not need to change her number at all.

Now the calls i made i was expecting high charges, but i looked at my online bill (unbilled usage) and the calls have no charges against them, the date i called and duration are correct but the minutes has come off my monthly allowance.

I cant understand why i have not been socked for charges for calling abroad. Can anyone explain this to me please?

you dont get charged for phoning crete but your girlfriend does get charged for accepting a call from england
mobile companys cannot charge somebody in england calling an english mobile abroad on the basis that the person making the call might not know that it will be an international call so therefore they charge the person being called for accepting the international call

hope that is in english for you

wow thats unreal, so as well as my g/f getting charged heavily for calling me she is also getting charged for me calling her. what a rip off.

the times i used the phonecard, will she be charge free for that or will she get charged for the times i used the phonecard?

what is the cheapest way to call someone abroad ie crete, there is no landline where she is so mobiles only.

wait till i tell her the good news cripes

    thanks for the info tony

  • Can't She Just Call Your Landline (presuming U Have One) From A Local Phone Box?

No, they don't get charged at the far end, and it is a Cingular sim, so USA service. Unsure how this works for other countries though, so DO reseaerch the services on offer out there before using any of them.

I think with o2 contract and pay monthly..you can use 0845 or 0870 no's and they are inclusive of your free mins... and finding dialing companies that would call crete..then it would be free for both..
    smile everyday...cos its free :)

if your G/f is out of the country .. on international roaming she will be charged for all calls received.

she will also pay for all outgoing calls no mater where that call terminates.

A colleague run up a bill in Moscow for just short of £800 for a week in country.. and made only a couple of outgoing calls.. the bill was made up almost totally from the office calling him.

To the mobile network it does not matter where the phone is. you will alway be charged for calling it in its "home" country.

so a UK register mobile called in from a UK phone, will form part of a inclusive allowance.. (assuming it would normaly)

A US registerd phone called from the UK will be charged at international rates for the person making the call.. the person receiving the call will not be charged as it is still at "home"

and yes your phone cards were wasted.. unless you use them on other calls..
