Have you told CAB about the urgency? Aslo call the council and ask if they have a welfare advisor, give them the details, they may be able to point you in the right direction. Make an appointment at Job Centre, they'll say it's not them, but you have to stick to your guns and explain the situation is urgent, you need advise and help, you can't do it on your own.

TBH if all else fails, I'd strongly suggest you immediately contact your MP, detail everything you've mentioned here and all teh personal details you can't. Make sure he/she knows that you've exhausted every avenue to no avail, it's not charity you're after, just the opportunity after a terrible time to rebuild a life.

Sorry, I'm a bit of a grumble weed today, no offence intended ... well it might be, but I'll be sorry.

Forgot to mention, Freecycle. It's worth a shot, and if you are able to give a few details on your wanted, you'd be surprised how many folk are willing to help out. But, if you've never freecycled before, you must have offered before you can post a want.

Hi all, i recentley helped my sister to apply for a community care grant and it was refused. She left her ex partner after he kept beating her up and locking her in the house for days. She lost her job due to this and in the end ran away to her mums with her daughter and stay either there or at friends. She started to rent a house out of that town in march 09 but has had to start fresh all they had was clothes. She has advertised on all the free site and was give everything she owns. Shes just ad a baby to her daughter dad who she was with before her ex and Shes recentley moved into the house as they ended up with no were else to go. The childrens dad has now moved back in and is looking for work at the moment and shes really trying to get herself together. She suffers from depression and an eating disorder so is really strugling at the moment. They dont have a cooker, washer, bedding, no carpet in the whole house, no pans and they are sleeping in a single bed. She applyed for these items and was refused, they wont give her a crisis loan and shes only recently made a claim for benefits so has not been claiming long enough to get a budgeting loan. Has anyone got any ideas as to what to do now? I dont know what else she can do

Wow, she's really in dire straits. Can she not ask friends/family to help out even if it is on a short term basis like lending pans or loaning a microwave?

What's happened to bully boy? Has he gone for good? *hope so*

Have you tried facebook groups? In my local area people have set up groups like 'free to good home' etc , maybe there are some local to your sister which are similar? Also, are there any local homeless charities who can help? Many of them are clued up about grants etc and where to get stuff for your home when you are in need.

A lot of former Freecycle groups have now moved to Freegle or Reecycle. Thanks to this some of the rules have been relaxed and not all groups require you to offer an item before you can place a wanted post. Even if the local group does it might be worth contacting the moderators to explain the situation. I think Hyde would come under the Manchester Greencycle group? but there's also the realcycle group

Another tack might be the local Housing Associations. As they are often involved in housing people in dire need they will be well aware of what help is available locally.
