Refused community care grant can anyone help??

Hi all, i recentley helped my sister to apply for a community care grant and it was refused. She left her ex partner after he kept beating her up and locking her in the house for days. She lost her job due to this and in the end ran away to her mums with her daughter and stay either there or at friends. She started to rent a house out of that town in march 09 but has had to start fresh all they had was clothes. She has advertised on all the free site and was give everything she owns. Shes just ad a baby to her daughter dad who she was with before her ex and Shes recentley moved into the house as they ended up with no were else to go. The childrens dad has now moved back in and is looking for work at the moment and shes really trying to get herself together. She suffers from depression and an eating disorder so is really strugling at the moment. They dont have a cooker, washer, bedding, no carpet in the whole house, no pans and they are sleeping in a single bed. She applyed for these items and was refused, they wont give her a crisis loan and shes only recently made a claim for benefits so has not been claiming long enough to get a budgeting loan. Has anyone got any ideas as to what to do now? I dont know what else she can do

What reasons did they give for refusing the grant?

Her best bet will be the local job centre or citizins advice. They can tell her if there is anything else she can apply for, and even apply on her behalf. I live in Southampton and there is a local church group who will lend money for such things, maybe there is one near her that could help?

Hi, thanks for replying it says we have decided that we can not pay you a cgg this is for the following reason. We pay community care grants to help people in certain circumstances. For example: to return or stay in the community rather than having to be in care. To return to the community from places like detension centres. To cope with exceptional pressure or to set up home as part of a planned resettlement programme.

Hi, thanks for replying she started with nothing but clothes and shes been given stuff from local groups and free sites on the internet but still hasnt got some of the basic items but she has been looking. We visited the jobcentre to get her the form after being refused a crisis loan. They said she should apply for this grant

Did she send off evidence stating why she should be entitled to a CCG instead of a crisis loan?

    Hi
Tell her to appeal on the grounds that the stress is affecting her health.
If they refuse the second time tell her to appeal again too many people just accept the loan or give in.

She rang crisis loans and the said she wasnt able to claim and to apply for the grant for the items insted. So didnt really have any evidence.

Hi, thanks for the reply. Thats what i'm trying to help her do. Shes ready for just giving up but i'm trying to help sort it out. She put about her health on the form and told them everything but was still refused. She has no support frm anywhere and its so confusing all this. I thought they would see she need help but it doesnt look like they have

CAB are the best bet for help with filling the forms. They will also be able to point her in the direction of any charities which help families just starting/restarting.

For instance, here in Norfolk, both the Salvation Army and the Benjamin Foundation are able to help with essential items. I would certainly suggest contacting The Army.
I ave a dodgy H, so sometimes I will sound dead common, on occasion dead stupid and rarely, pig ignorant. Sometimes I may be these things, but I will always blame it on my dodgy H.

Sorry, I'm a bit of a grumble weed today, no offence intended ... well it might be, but I'll be sorry.

Hi, thanks for your reply. We would have to wait 6 to 8week for an appointment with CAB and we have tryed the local charities groups and got sofa, single bed, cot, pram, wardrobes, fridge, kettle, tv, table, towels, plates and stuff but cant get hold of these items. Does anyone know what to put on the letter to ask for a review? What will happen then? How does she explain why she need these items and how she will cope without them. I really dont understand what else to tell them
