Which banks don't use card readers for online transactions?

I'm with Nationwide and hate that I have to use a card reader every time I want to make a payment from my online account. Are there any banks that don't use them?

Thanks

Halifax doesn't but their faster payment service is still a bit hit or miss imo.

RBS only requires the reader when you first set up a new payment instruction, after than you dont need to use it to make further payments to that person/business.

A&L don't either but their fps is atrocious (imo).

RBS does use card readers but just for the initial set up of a payment, after the first time it goes through without the need to use it

Halifax, Lloyds, A&L and Intelligent Finance are the banks I'm with that don't use them.

First Direct don't use them but they lie to you and charge you £10 per month if you don't / can't have your wages paid in.

That is a completely untrue statement.
There are several ways in which to avoid the £10 monthly charge.
The simplest of which is to open an e-Saver account and deposit £1.

I do use them, I do not pay a regular amount in and have never paid a monthly fee.
They have also never lied to me!

It wouldn't be sensible to move to a bank simply because they currently don't use card-readers. Banks' attitudes to security is constantly evolving. You can't tell what will happen in the future.
  • HSBC don't use Card Readers BUT will be using these very soon:
