Unfortunately it is just bad luck.

You will have to bite the bullet and pay for the work yourself or claim off your insurance, however you may even have trouble doing the latter.

Stonechips happen. If you dont like it dont drive.
Its not anyone elses fault you happen to own a rare unsuitable car for the roads in this country.

Talk about sweeping statements - was the attitude really necessary?

You have no evidence to suggest the car is 'unsuitable for the roads in this country'. Nor is it reasonable to suggest that if someone doesn't like stone chips they shouldn't drive.

The OP is being perfectly reasonable and polite in their posts - may I suggest you do the same.

Just to give an idea why I'm so annoyed, here is what it used to look like.

I haven't taken a picture of it's current state, to be honest I really don't want to.

I think I'm going to have to just wait until my GFs new tyre arrives and my company car, and then see if the detailing bloke can do anything with it. Front bumper is going to need a respray regardless though.

On a more positive note, I found out that next time something like this happens, my GF will be insured to drive my company car to her work and I can do my short commute in my own car. It may not prevent this from happening again, though I'm much less likely to get overtaken as my commute brings me home in a queue rather than hers bringing her home at 11 when all the chavs and drunks are out, but at least it'll be me driving when it happens and I'll make sure I follow them get their bloody number and insurance details.

Lum - have you tried http://www.detailingworld.co.uk/forum/index.php - they are experts in this area although from the look of your car I'm guessing you may already be familiar with that site :)

I'm aware of that site, that's where I found this bloke in Cardiff who does it for a living.

Going to ring him after I get my company Mondeo and the GFs 200SX has 4 tyres again.

Right, ok problem here..... When people see an old car they automatically think "shed", no matter how rare, valuable or well maintained it may be, this is a consumerist society and if it ain't new it ain't important.... :(

Thats part of the reason why I want to keep it looking pristine. At this sort of age, it doesn't take much to drop from "That's well looked after" to "shed" just a bunch of scratches and a door ding or two.

I care little for new cars, most of them are far too dumbed down and disconnected, and the visibility is usually terrible thanks to having 30 airbags in every pillar, they're also far too complicated to maintain meaning that they're more costly to run and will end up as scrap much sooner. For the company car it doesn't matter because once it's 4 years old it's someone else's problem, but for my own, I'd rather have a good condition older car any time.

It's like a Skyline to drive, though with slightly softer suspension and a bit more body roll (easily fixable and on my to do list.)
It's like a Rover 800 when you're at the lights/McDonalds and there are chavs and/or police around. No hassle or attention.
