Sorry to hear about your computer, I don't know what to suggest other than selling everything that is not nailed down.

Could you maybe ask on the techie board if there is something you can do to delay until you have to get a new computer?

Good news about the credit union though, and if the dress is really nice and you can see yourself wearing it a lot, then it would be worth it. Or you could save the £40 and put it towards a new computer....

I tried to declutter my wardrobe the other week, wound up putting most of it back :doh:I did sell some bits at a boot sale though so was pleased with that.

We've got a lot of boxes of stuff, a lot of which wasn't even unpacked at the other house, so if we haven't used it in the 6 months we were there then we obviously don't need it. I'm a compulsive hoarder, and have the bad habit of keeping things "just in case" which is why there's so much stuff in the first place! This weekend is going to be our Ebay weekend, and we're going to try to sell everything we can to put it towards buying new pc's. When we sold stuff to raise money to move we managed to get about £400 but that was mostly one or two expensive items, so might not get near that this time, but every little helps :D

Had to go dentist yesterday, and had my first ever filling. He didn't numb me or drill the tooth, he just filled it. I broke a bit off it on Thursday just gone, but it wasn't actually hurting, it was just quite sharp at the broken edge.

I ordered the dress and it's arrived yesterday and looks lovely. It's mainly for my OH's brother's wedding, but I'm sure I will use it more than that as it does look great :) I went for a cheaper style, but then ordered the petticoat to go under it too which brought it back up to £45 inc postage  That means that the original one I was looking at would have been closer to £60! I could have made the petticoat myself, but I was feeling plain lazy and at least now I have it and can use it with my other dresses that I've made :D

That's good news about the dress, it sounds great!

I've just had an e-mail from ebay saying it's free listing this weekend, so just in time for you! You can't use turbolister or anything though which is annoying, you can only use the 'sell your item form'.

That's fantastic news about the CCJ, finally gone!:j

  • It's been so long since I've posted on here, I'm sure that this thread has forgotten who I am lol. I've just read back over the whole thread, and I'm glad of how what I've learned earlier on has stuck with me even though I've been away. I've continued to keep my spending diary, I've started to put £100 away each month as a budget fund (though this got ram-raided - see below :o ) and I'm still not smoking :A

I got a great book for Christmas from my friend. It's a sewing book, but it's all about recycling stuff you have already, like doing up skirts and tops, or using the material for other things, rather than just throwing them away. I'm going to use some of the ideas and make things for selling at craft fairs closer to Christmas this year. I've managed to resist buying any more new material for a good few months now, and hopefully I will use up all I have so far before I buy any more. However, this week I've spent £3.89 on a knitting pattern for a really nice hooded jumper that my and my stepmum are going to knit together over the coming months.

I did give in to temptation once, and bought a new PC just after Christmas, which has set me back £540 :o plus one for OH (another £540 :o:o ) but at least I can now get back on my games and I won't have to spend any more on it for another 5 years :D. I used some of the money that I'd put away in my budgetting fund, and I'm looking forward to being able to have savings that are specifically saved for things like this as it was nice to know that most of the cost was covered by money of my own, even if that wasn't the original reason for saving it! That has been my only set back since my last post, though I did actually sit down and plan for it, rather than just getting it and worrying later. I actually didn't use my overdraft at all in December, and the only reason I'm back in it now is due to said PC purchases so I'm a bit annoyed with myself for that, but at least I know I will be recovered from it by the end of next month.

End of Jan 2011 Financial Update

    [STRIKE]Littlewoods..........£0[/STRIKE] ---- Cleared: 28-Jun-10
    [STRIKE]Rossendales..........£0[/STRIKE] ---- Cleared: 02-Jun-10
    [STRIKE]Wescot...............£0[/STRIKE] ---- Cleared: 27-Oct-10
    Credit Card..........£427.80
Car Finance..........£1,299 (according to credit reports)
    Family...............£700
    Ex...................£1,000
    Overdraft............£714.14 / £1,000 (Highest O/D this month: 10/01) - OD Fees: £23 :(

    Current debt balance: £4140.94
    Current savings (Budgetting account): £150.00
Next target on the list: Credit Card

    Debt at LBM (27 May 2010): £5639.85
Total paid off since LBM: £1498.91

As you can see, it has still been coming down overall, and if I'm really good and stick to my budget, I should be able to put the extra into the credit card and get that paid off by the end of March, which will give me an extra £50 a month

As an interesting bit of random information I've just noticed, according to my automatic "smoking saving calculator", I have saved approximately £1507 since I quit, which is about what I've paid off my debt in around the same amount of time - how's that for coincidence? :D

Welcome back D3mon 4ngel! Well done on the continued non smoking :T

I bought a new laptop over christmas too, it was as a back up in case my 6 year old + PC ever failed. I'd be lost without a computer!

Thank you. I'm quite proud of myself for sticking to it :)

Technology - It's always moving forwards, so what is top of the line today is "old" less than a year later, and completely obsolete within a few years :s

Always good to have a back up PC, but don't forget to copy all your files over and make sure you have backups of them too! My friend was in a panic just before Christmas. She's a photographer and had several years worth of photos saved onto a flash drive. She needed to look at some but the drive she'd saved them on decided it didn't want to be read! Luckily, it started working again soon after and the panic was over, but it taught her to always make several backups. Sound advice if ever I heard it :)

Very true. I haven't tranferred most of the files as they are backed up externally so if I want them, I would access them from the hard drive. But yes, the back ups are very important!

  • Ok, we're 9 days into February, and only 5 days left until the end of "Birthday Season" :j

For me, Nov 2nd - Feb 14th contains 12 close family birthdays, with only 4 others falling throughout the rest of the year!
    Not to mention:
    - 1 wedding anniversary
    - Fireworks night
    - Christmas
    - New Year
    - Valentines Day
I'm just glad that I don't live in the US, as I'd have to throw Thanksgiving in there too! :rotfl:

So far this month I've managed to rack up 5 No Spend Days and have only bought one lunch at work out of 7, so saved approximately £14.70 there.

I've recalculated, and depending on my groceries spends this month, I should be out of the overdraft before March payday :j then car insurance to pay in April :( but should definitely be able to pay off CC and OD completely by August meaning I will be free of all "official" unsecured debt. I've only got until Feb next year until my HP finishes anyway, so will probably let that run it's course, and concentrate on paying back my family (will be done by November) and my ex (hopefully done by March next year). All that will remain then will be the mortgage, but that's another story :p

Feeling so confident about it all at the min... can you tell? :D

That sounds like a good plan! Must be very exciting to be able to see the end, well done with what you've done so far!

Jan/Feb is a busy Birthday time for me too, but nothing like as many as you have!
