To be honest I think you've done well out of them, my engagement ring broke about 18 months after I got it and I was basically accused of having done it myself and not having looked after it properly. I was utterly mortified at the way I was treated by the Hanley branch of H Samuel, they made out that they were being generous by repairing it free of charge. I feel your pain with something like a wedding ring, surely it's not fit for purpose if it doesn't last longer than 18 months! I know someone who had the exact same problem with their wedding ring and that was able to be repaired so maybe take the £100 and look around for someone who can fix it for you.

'It's a contract for enjoyment'...is there any legislation?

No but the rule in Jackson -v- Horizon Holidays is where the principle was set out by Lord Denning and has been followed ever since.

So there's no law? What if my TV fails...which is more important than a bit of metal to me!

we'll have to agree to disagree on this one.
The Googlewhacker referance is to Dave Gorman and not to my opinion of the search engine!

I'm guessing the point being made is that as the general idea of marriage is until death do us part, surely the ring should be made well enough to last a lifetime. I quite agree.

No, it is case law. We operate in a common law jurisdiction.

Law in this country is not just made up of legislation.

Oh, and the other lead case is Jarvis -v- Swan Tours (1974).
