Firey668; you are a disgrace. And I bet you love it.
  • Hey good luck with your exams and I hope you get the university place you are after.

As others have said, your parents will get benefits for you until the 1st of september, but this is extended in some circumstances so probably best to discuss this with them. If you get a part time job though this won't affect them :) so definitely your best option if you can find one, will give you chance to have a bit of freedom until you start university and save up for all those added expenses.

At least you had the sense to ask what happens and I'm sorry you got such negative comments for doing so. There is nothing wrong, in my opinion, with finding out all your options... just incase.

    Best of luck x

My daughter found a job with an agency.

I went to the job centre last year (around June) and asked about temporary jobs because of uni. One of the first things the adviser said was "have you looked at agencies?" He then handed me a few sheets of paper with contacts on.

then if i were you id claim jsa myself as itd be cash in hard for me then. :)

You can't claim one and your parents claim the other.

Just say you were entitled to JSA - it wouldn't start until the end of the academic year, which in most parts of the country is around the 23rd July. So that would only be about 8 weeks of JSA that you would get - so about £480. That could be earnt in a couple of weeks except that you could start working right after your last exam, or even before if, like my son, they are quite spread out. Alot of kids work up to 8 hours per week all during the A levels, including exam time. Most employers are very flexible when it comes to hiring students and allowing time off for revision - my son could've been working any number of hours between 10 am this morning and about 1 am tomorrow morning - he has chosen to work only 3-8 (most needed time) and spent this morning revising for an exam on Monday and now relaxing in the pool.

You make it sound like claiming JSA is your ONLY option. Don't count too much on finding part time work when you get to Uni either - oldest son was at uni in a town where two unis and two large colleges exist - and not many job to go around. He has since returned home, and working full time within three weeks of his return - so it wasn't a case of him not applying himself. Having a part time job at Uni would've made a big difference to him.

If you don't earn money during the summer, will you have any money until your student loans come in? Do you qualify for any bursaries from the university based on your parents income? If you're living on campus, your maintenance loan will pretty much JUST cover your accommodation - you'll either need a top up maintenance grant AND a university bursary or a maintenance grant AND a job to get by.

You say you are going to a TOP university in the UK - you do know that any of the Oxbridge unis/colleges don't want you to have a part time job? Even those in the Russell Group can come down heavy on you if they think that your working will interfere with your studies. The time to have thought about your university funding was a few years ago, not months before the start of your course.
