    Could try that thread.

If you search for cheaper+bread on the forum search you will probably find a lot more threads on the same subject

There's alos this thread - breadmaker - worth it?

I'd say that HM loaves are cheaper. Additionally, I can make a speciality loaf for the same price as a standard bakery loaf, and they keep fresher for longer.

Using someone else's clever maths for the gas cost, I get 15 slices out of an 18p homemade loaf. And it's lovely!

Will it save me money on bread which has now hit astronomical prices?

Does the bread taste any better?

    Any thought appreciated.

Hi, this is one of my first ventures into the OS board.

Now that it is very difficult to find a decent loaf of bread for less than £1 i'm thinking about buying a bread maker. But i'm clueless as to the process.

Where do you all buy your bread makers from?
What brands are good to look for?
    Is bread difficult to make?
Does it work out much cheaper than buying it?
    How much cheaper?

sorry if these answers have been asked a million times, i did a quick search but couldn't see a beginners guide

    Hi BigBouncyBall,

    Welcome to Old Style :hello:

There's an earlier thread that should help you to decide whether or not a breadmaker is cost effective....I think it is, especially as you know exactly what's in your bread.

I estimate a loaf costs me around 40-50p depending on the ingredients I use. More recently though I've been making bread by hand, because I prefer the texture and shape. It's more work but the end result is better. There's a thread about the costs of making bread in an oven here:

Is breadmaking in a conventional oven any

I have a morphy richards fastbake....it's good but I have nothing to compare it with. Many people recommend the Panasonic breadmaker. These two seem to be the most popular. I've listed some threads below that might help you to decide:

Price of a loaf of bread!

Should i get a bread maker?

    Breadmaker with normal shaped loaf?

Can anyone recommend a good Breadmaker?

    Which Breadmaker to get?

I'm sorry if this has been answered before (I did search but couldn't find anything)

Is it expensive to run a bread maker if it's running for 2/3 hours?

    Thank you.

Hi my Morphy Richards fast bake is 500w, and so it would use this as a maximum, when actually baking the bread, not the rising time if you see what I mean.
One unit of electricity is a kW (ie 1000 watts) hour so I would need to run mine for 2 hours to use one unit of electricity in my case it's about 9.5p. Is this what you were looking for?

Hi Jenni. If you search under bread machine you get a few results. icon7.gif

This one looks like it answers the question. ;)
