sorry but it sounds like it needs to be crushed

Err ok then?!!..the car was bought at a mileage of 22k and was imaculate and has had a clean bill of health for the last 3 years since we have had it. It has been reg serviced and checked and always passed the MOT's so not sure why you thing this is warrantly for it to be crushed?..i asked the mechanic in all seriousness if he thought we should sell it and he said no..although he would buy it if we were! he said it was a lovely example (and that's a specialist who sees them every day). We get lots of comments on it so have no worries about selling it if we decided to.

I don't think in 3 years of having it it's a huge deal tbh.

your specialist dont sound to special to me

the heater worked before he replaced the hg? was the head skimmed and pressure tested (prone to cracking)?
could just be air locks in the cooling system

Probably would be ideal to go for a replacement engine with a guarantee. If the car is in excellent condition it may be well worth forking out a bit more than expected.
Problem with having access to internet is that i get asked by many to solve their problems :( Well at least i learn something on the way :D

Well he was suggested by someone on here and when i looked and asked on the MG forum i use he was also highly reccomended so we just took that chance. The heater was lacking in heat..it heated but nothing like it did when we bought it, my husband hates it on as always woram so unless i had been in the cra on my own i wouldn't have known for the last few months due to it being warm..also may be sounding dumb again but never thought to ask about it as never knew it was related?

I don't think it has been skimmed or tested..he said it was fried when he looked at it hence it bieng replaced? i guess he only does replacements as he can't skim them on the side of the rd )or so ive been told)..the garage who were origionally doing it quoted me £700 for a skim so i dread to think what it would have been with a new one. It's not all about the money but tbh i refuse to be ripped off..maybe i already have who knows..stuck now! Think he tried flushing the system doing a few things and said it just wouldn't heat right through and there were still hot spots which is obviously not good for it.
    thanks for the reply.

How much would a replacement engine be? the car is apparantly sound and noth garages have told me this..i also am a bit of a worrier and have had it in for most things and at my embarrasment they have called me to say everything is ok! the only thing it has done is the central locking which was covered under our warranty which was good as £400ish!..the bit where we start spending £1000's is where i start to rethink as it is a lovely looking car but there are plenty of others out there.

it should really be done when the cambelt is done.. as the extra tension on the belt could cause a water pump to fail which could of caused the hgf in the first place although im no mechanic...
