£2000 car
Hi there we have for the first time ever!!!!!
£2000 to spend on a car ( we have always had £600 +/- before).
Now we want to get it right but we also want something 'a bit nicer' than average so are willing to have an older car for a bit of luxury.
We will almost definately need at least a saloon with four doors as we have almost three kids and it needs to be quite powerful.
Dh has been looking at BMW's and Audi's but we just can't come to a conclusion.
Any advice gratefully recieved xxx

You won't get much BMW or Audi for that money..... and they're only a status symbol if they're brand new. They also come with very little equipment as standard.
Try a Vectra or Mondeo sized car, you'll get much better equipped vehicle than any BMW/Audi and servicing/running costs will be much lower too.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

I know we can get more for our money with a vectra or mondeo but we have had both these cars in the past and DH wanted something a bit more 'special' we have budgeted for extra running and servicing costs. We have always had older cars so not too bothered about an older reg.I don't get nearly enough credit for not being a violent psychopath.0 -
might get a Peugeot 607 for 2.5K0

"Special"?
BMW, Audi, Mercedes, etc.... Aren't "special" in any other country than the UK.
Gotta love our class system eh? :rotfl:“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

a £2000 beemer will be on its last legs. Can get something like a citroen C5, renault vel satis (luxery renault car which was never popular over here, hard to find though), chrysler PT cruiser (if you don't mind looking like a plonker). For reliability I'd probably plonk for a honda accord.
Remember, 'premium' badges have premium running costs, so although the likes of jags, audis, porshces, alfa's etc can be found for £2000, they'll soon start costing that in maintenance0 -
OP if you had said £10k +/- you might have been talking about a reasonable BMW etc but at your money I tend to agree with the majority on here.0

I can see all your points but we aren't expecting the car to last forever and we have always had old cars in the past so how is an s reg BMW any worse than a r reg vectra which we have now and have had with no problems (up til now for two years), not being obtuse just interested.I don't get nearly enough credit for not being a violent psychopath.0

Take a look at the Saab 93 (petrol) my son has had a couple in the £2,000 range and they have been great cars, so much so that we bought a new one (now 4 years old) and love it as well.
Mileage will be around 26-30 around town and around 40 mpg on motorways. lots of toys and comfort.
just get something you like and enjoy it.Totally Debt Free & Mortgage Free Semi retired and happy0 -
