Most surveyors are pretty savvy and will realise they are being conned. They may notice the old sofa impressions on the carpet and wonder what it is hiding now, or realise several layers of fresh paint on the window tell a story, and unless your car is being scratched by the wall will see exactly what its condition is. Once they realise they are being hoodwinked, then expect a stinking report, all written in vague language but enough to scare your buyer. As you say the devil is in the wording. Why have you not made any effort to fix these problems you knew about?

We have received an offer on our property.:rotfl:

The property has a wooden floor and some damp history. There is a patch of brickwork on the fireplace that has flaked away. Can surveyors move furniture?

I was thinking of rearranging the furniture to go along the damp area walls and at the side of the fireplace to hide the flaking brick. Also, there is a crack in the wood floor that I could hide the sofa over

The bathroom should be OK, i had it tiled floor to wall to prevent the plaster being tested.

i am repainting the window sill as the paint keeps going brown. I will park the car outside close to the peeling render.

I am speechless. Seriously you think it is ok to hide these things? To be so brazen about it on here?

As another poster said, I'm glad I'm not the one buying your house. I hope your buyer gets wind of what you're trying to hide and pulls out, leaving them free to find a better property to purchase with more honest vendors.
I love giving home made gifts, which one of my children would you like? :D :A :D

lol. They can `smell` damp a mile off and one of the first areas they will test will be around the fireplace. You have no where to hide op

If you think the surveyor will be dumb enough NOT to look down the side of the sofa that's been pushed up to one wall where it doesn't belong.....

If you think the surveyor will be dumb enough NOT to look down the side of the car when it's parked WAY over to one side.......

If you think parking a car close to the wall will prevent the surveyor looking down the side of the car AT the wall.....

I think your only chance of pulling the wool over his eyes is if he arrives with a white stick and/or guide dog. Personally, I think you're on a hiding to nothing. The surveyor WILL see what you're trying to do. You WILL be found out.
  • Haven't laughed so much for ages:j can't believe you're serious.

I like the guide dog suggestion but hope it's not a sniffer dog too.

yes you can do it but its naughty.. Here is some more tips glue your carpets down with sealant. . Screw a mirror onto the fireplace wall or barometer or a fancy clock where the damp patch is. if you notice cracks in outside walls then get someone to render/pebbledash the outside brickwork and make it look lovely as it only cost me £400. Can you not cramp more furnature into the room with the most problems as most surveyers wont have time to move it around. Make sure the window sill is freshly painted the day before the surveyer comes.

We have some floorboards missing in the bedroom but thankfully the bed goes over this patch.

So you like to make it easy for the mice, spiders and other insects to get into your bedroom....?
