Hi
I have only just found the charities board after years of being on the mailing list of the main board!
Yesterday as a sheer fluke I contacted GHS Recycling in Portsmouth and have been having an email conversation with a lady who has been great. It's to recycle milk bottle tops and donating money to the charity I am a trustee for. I, like others have family and friends who saved in earnest every top they could get their hands on to be told all of a sudden that they are no longer needed or wanted. Although the amount of tops given to the amount of money donated is minimal, for a charity like ours anything is better than nothing and if we can get our members and website friends involved all the better for all. This company seems to be able to collect all over the country which is ideal for us as we have people who have rehomed our dogs and can use our valuable network of homecheckers for the odd collections. I know this isn't going to change our funds but in recycling at the same time as helping the charity this benefits all round. Sorry to go on, especially as this is my first post. I will keep quiet now for the next month. Thank you.0 -
GHS accept bottle tops on behalf of several charities - I collect them from friends, family & colleagues then take a couple of sacks full once or twice a year. They can pay the charities every couple of months. The tops are recycled into wheelie bins, toys, bottle tops, etc. Have a look at their website for more info ghsrecyclingltd.co.uk
There is another company in the Southampton area who donate money to the Gift of Sight charity for bottle tops collected. More info on the giftofsight.org.uk website.GSD_Rescue wrote: »Hi

Hi im pretty sure Christies Cancer hospital are collecting them for their childrens ward its located in the Stockport area Greater Manchester/Cheshire
www. christie. nhs .co .uk
my grandad is in and out of there all the time and he collects them so all the family are doing their bit from home and work etc
like many people have said they dont raise alot of money but its easy and every little helps
I think they only want to buy more childrens chairs and tables for the play area but with budget cuts they cant so worth it in my opinion
although again like others have stated the cost of posting the bottle tops is probably more than what they are worth so you may aswell just donate cash unless you drop them off local0 -
Along the decluttering theme I was wondering if anyone knew of any charities that collected bottle tops.
A few years ago when my DD was in primary school they collected them for charity and since then I have carried on collecting them certain that someone, somewhere would do it again but I've never heard of anyone wanting them.
Just wondered if anyone on here had any ideas.
I've been collecting used stamps aswell but they take up a lot less room haha.0 -
ive moved this to the charities board for you
Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: I’ve asked Board Guides to move threads if they’ll receive a better response elsewhere(please see this rule) so this post/thread has been moved to another board, where it should get more replies. If you have any questions about this policy please email abuse@moneysavingexpert.com.

There's a long running thread on this but the bottom line is:
Bottle caps are worth about 2.5p per kilogram when delivered in 500kg lots to the gates of the recycling company. IMHO not worth the trouble.0 -
I shall merge this with the existing thread ...Signature removed for peace of mind0

Hi - I have found 2 sites which do pay a sum of money for receiving clean bottle caps. Specifically GHS which have a very comprehensive web site and news on how to recycle plastic caps on GHSRECYCLING Ltd.
Also a company called Green Ant will also pay out for charitable causes. Have a look at both web sites. There are rules relating to the collection, however, a drop off point could be organised so that the minimum weight can be dropped off and in some cases collected. A great and easy way to prevent our landfill sites filling up with plastic which council recycling schemes do not use and to help your favourite charity.
Hope this sheds some light on the matter. :-)0 -
Does anyone know of a legitimate charity which will supply a wheelchair in exchange for your weight (I think ) in plastic bottle tops ? I dont know where to start, to look for one.0
