The grill element is totally seperate from the oven element. The oven element is behind the plate at the back of the oven & is usually held on by 4 screws. The oven element is around the outside of the fan & is usually easy to change. Very common for fan oven elements to blow nowadays.
  • Hi guys, ive just been reading ur thread about why cookers wont work. Ive a built in electric cooker and the fan, light and grill all work so after reading what u guys wrote it must be the element. Im a bit afraid to try and unscrew the panel at the front of the fan as ive never done anything like that before. Ive recently been made redundant and cant really afford to buy a new cooker or to pay someone to come and fix it. Can anyone give me any tips on how i can do this safely and what where exactly can i get the hold of a new element??? What does an element look like - sorry to sound stupid, i just dont want to make a HUGH MISTAKE yikes :(

Safely? Just turn the electric off. It's quite easy. The element looks well...like an element of an electric radiator/fire or you may see one inside your kettle if it's not hidden away.

hey smileysaide, I had the same problem last year, and as a single mother i could'nt afford to call somebdy to look at it. So i googled how to fix element and ordered the part of ebay. i then followed the step by step instructions on replacing the part, it was really easy.
so last month when the fan in the oven stopped working, i looked online and found another step by step vidoe on how to replace the fan, i ordered the part from ebay (again) and was able to replace the part myself!! I am so proud that i did it myself, i had asked the local reapir shop for a quote and they had said around £130 depending on make and model, so i reckon i have saved about £100!! well done me!!

most fan ovens have elements like this one.
    the wires goto T1, T2 and E = earth.
maybe three screws hold it in place. A, B, C.

the fan is in the centre. easy enough to replace.

ordinary ovens are very similar. but the element is more square or oblong shape. ish.
buy the parts off ebay. cheap.
    Get some gorm.
  • my oven is about 4 years old and gets quite a bit of use! i noticed the other day that it hadn't heated up when i put it on fan but when i changed it to ordinary oven it worked fine - anyone got any ideas how to fix this? the fan works but it just doesn't heat.
  • Hi,

I appreciate this thread is a little old but I have a related question I was hoping could be answered here.

My oven element is broken (I had the same symptoms as those mentioned above) and I have taken it out of the oven - but I forgot to look at which terminals the neutral / live wires were connected to. I cannot see any markings on the element terminals to help decipher which terminals require the L/N wires.

Does it matter which terminals I hook up the L and N wires to?

This is an example of the element I am looking to replace

    (replace DOMAIN with goo )

    Thanks in advance.

Shouldn't make any difference either way round.

    Thanks very much :)
  • How do I know what element to order?
