I always look at things like this as you win some and you lose some, but the idea is to win for the most of the time. i.e. overall winning.

Sometimes going to the checkout at a shop and looking at what other people in the queue in front of you have and knowing you have just been in the shop just round the corner just beforehand with the same item priced cheaper makes you smile.

On the topic of cherries has anyone noticed Hartleys tins of pie filling don't seem to appear on the shelves anymore. Hmpf - I always liked a good cherry pie.

The one annoyance are the items in a pound shop that are 99p in others. My husband has said he always wanted to become a millionaire by buying 100million things for 99p and selling them for £1.

He wouldn't be a millionaire from doing that unless he's a tax evader :D
If you don't like what I say slap me around with a large trout and PM me to tell me why.

If you do like it please hit the thanks button.

That was exactly the opposite of what I meant. As is pointed out above - had i not written that someone would've said "you can afford it what you whinging about". My point was I believe in value - and dont like to overspend and I was trying to seperate that from affordability

I am more than aware of the different incomes that people using this site and everywhere have. I've spent my life working and campaigning on issues like debts, tax credits and bank charges - though i've never really had either.

I know how fortunate I am - but would never dream of rubbing people's noses in it. Yet nor should this site become about bashing anyone who has cash - MoneySaving has always been about people of ANY income doing better with their money and making it stretch. Whether you're on the dole or Alan Sugar.

    Sometimes you just can't win!

Hi, I am Neither rich or Poor.. I see you and this site as a "Robin Hood" of the day. By following your free advice I have have so far recalimed.

£247 - MBNA. Late or overdrawn charges
    £792 + 8% - Barclaycard. Late or overdrawn charges
Money back from EDF for being in credit.

As much as I think you are great, I seriously hope you didnt go home and tell your OH your woes of paying too much for a box of cherries. If my OH did that I would think he was a right boring sod!!!

Let's be greatful that you're not our OH then! Are you that entertaining that other people are just boring by comparison?

Ah, now, Cherries, Martin, pound for pound they must be nearly as dear as gold - next thing you know there'll be ads on the telly with little plastic bags you can send cherries in to be traded for cash. ;)

Our local Tesco still stocks them; I always keep a couple of tins of the cherry one in the cupboard. The local Morrisons stocks Hartleys, but only the apple one.

Martin, I have a bone to pick with you.... I have a serious cherry craving now!:D

Sometimes you have to have it. However alarm bells ring regarding M&S food. Often more than normal high street price. But you're forgiven. We all need an indulgence and fruit is far nicer for you than alcohol or cigarettes. But then of course I'm smug.

If you would be entertained by your partner discussing a faux pas over the price of cherries then yes!

FTAOD, I think Martin is great, as I said in my original post.
