Hi, Inactive is correct. If you go to BBC engineering and use their post code checker, it links to digitalUK which shows that no transmitters in your area will commence HD until 2011.

Have you got the link to BBCs HD checker? i wouldve thought the freeview HD checker would be more reliable for info? in any case i went to currys yesterday (1/2 mile from my house) and they said most derby folk are not getting HD freeview. However they didnt seem too sure themselves. They said they didnt even have a normal terrestrial ariel in their store to pickup these channels which i found very strange.

i'm in Derby (DE21). i was checking info online yesterday as i'm seeing which is the best way to get HD at the moment. i'm not too fussed about the small no. of extra channels you can get with the Sky HD pack so i thought i'd have a look at the freeview option. everything i could find confirms no freeview HD in our area until 2011 unfortunately.

So your best (and cheapest) option by far is Freesat.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

i did look into Freesat this morning but the best boxes seem to be in the region of £150, so i might as well just go with Sky - free HD box, self install, half price subs for 6 months (hopefully) - can always cancel the HD pack after the 12 months tie in.

i could well be wrong though...

The Humax HD box can be obtained for less than £90, after that it's free forever. With Sky, you will pay that many times over.

thanks for the info on the Humax, i'll have to have a proper look into this. the only thing is if we go for a Freesat box, it will require the 2 cables from the dish that are currently going into a sky+ box. i'd want to keep the +box for recordings, so it's split the feeds or swap over each time from sky+ to freesat?

i hate looking into these things, i go in thinking i have an idea of what i'm looking for, & come out all bewildered! :o

You only need one feed for the Humax Foxsat HD box. Assuming you have a quad LNB with your Sky+, you still have two spare, just run another in from the LNB
If you want a Humax Foxsat HDR (with PVR recording facilities), then run in a twin feed using shotgun cable.

Currys staff wouldn't know what a 13 amp plug is, don't waste your time asking them anything.

I gave you a link that clearly tells you when HD Freeview is expected at your post code.
