Help picking up freeview HD channels in derby!

I have a new LCD with built in HD Freeview reciever. I have picked up all freeview channels. However some channels including ITV has "low signal strength".
I have noticed that analogue reception on all 5 channels is very poor. (snowy, grainy picture).

After several scans i simply cannot pickup any HD channels. There are no Channels 50,51,52.

After visiting several websites i have the following info:

Freeview HD available: 30 March 2010

Distance to transmitters:
•Sutton.C- 42.6km 26.5 miles southwest 217° signal strength 75% ("GOOD")
•Waltham - 45.4km 28.2 miles e-se 104° signal strength 45% ("GOOD")
•Derby - 4.0km 2.5 miles west 268° signal strength 25% ("VARIABLE")
•Notts - 16.2km 10.1 miles northeast 55° signal strenght 20 ("poor")

Antenna height 10metres
Waltham - BBC: UHF 49 effective radiated power: 10k
DIGITAL: UHF 23 effective radiated power: 8k
SuttonC - BBC: UHF 41 effective radiated power: 8k
DIGITAL: UHF 44 effective radiated power: 8k

AERIAL: Standard type - Yagi aerial
(184 teletext test passed)

i have tested the tv for both Digital & Analogue reception and outcome is same in all rooms. My TV is not sharing the aerial with anyone (the other tv is connected to Sky digital).

Any ideas from anyone would be extremely helpful becos i specifically bought the tv to watch the worldcup in HD (and why not i say!).

Do i need a new roof aerial? can a standard roof aerial actually recieve quality HD signal? Are people derby/derbyshire experiencing same problems with HD? many thanks

Hi, a search through transmitter info appears to show that the 4 transmitters you listed will commence HD transmissions between April 2011 and September 2011. In my area it is not until 2012.
  • I'm looking for a bit of help/advice with my TV reception.

I got BT vision about 6 months ago and when I tried to plug it in to the roof aerial it wouldn't work. I tried a set top aerial and it worked perfectly. Recently I've started losing channels and it freezes and pixellates on about half the channels. Do I need to get a new rooftop aerial or will a signal booster or something similar help?

OP, Freeview HD is only available in the London/SE England area and the Lancashire area (basically in the regions served by the Crystal Palace and Winter Hill transmitters). The rest of the UK will follow, but not in time for the World Cup. Did the shop that sold you the TV advise otherwise?
Your best and cheapest way of getting HD in time is to buy a Freesat HD box (I suggest the Humax Foxsat HD, about £90 on the Humax UK site)) and run a feed from that to your existing Sky dish, assuming you have a spare output on the LNB (if not the LNB can be changed for a quad quite cheaply).
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

    .

The Freeview HD checker suggests that is not correct. It shows that Freeview HD is in fact available in many more areas.

The coverage map and post code checker can be found here http://www.freeview.co.uk/freeview/HD

i have checked freeview website and it says the HD channels have been available from march 30, 2010. i will go to a few retailers later today to get their stance. If there is anyone from derby region who has HD via freeview then please show yourselves!

I used DE22 2AF as a random postcode and it said no HD channels available. The only Midlands area receiving it (according to their map) is Birmingham. then the rest of the Midlands in 2011.
Sorry, but if the retailer told you otherwise and knew your postcode then you have a case for claiming mis-selling.
The only way you will get HD in 9 days is Freesat.

Im from the citycentre. Any case i will speak to the retailer later today as they are literally 1mile from where i live and il ask them if they recieve HD on their televisions.

Not according to the checker that I linked to, it states around April 2011. HD Freeview is available at your location.
