Hi all,
A bit of a long shot but im totally at a loss as to what to do next.
Our brindle / black boy staffie escaped from our garden today around lunch time. We have been searching for 5 hours to no avail. He doesnt have a collar on but he is chipped.
I have called the council who have alerted the dog warden.
I called our vets and they told me that a man went to the surgery today and told them he had found a staffie but as he wasnt injured they wouldnt take any further action and told the guy to contact the warden, I have called the council and alerted them to this but still it doesnt seem the man has called the warden.
I have 2 young children and another staffie who are in bits as is my husband and as am I.
Im going to call round all the other vets in the area in the morning. How do I find out where the pounds are? Is there anything else I can be doing tonight to help?
Thanks in advance

Where are you? Did you call the local police station I know up here they sometimes keep them for a whole day if they have facilities in the station befor calling the warden.
Sorry I missed the location from your title! Oops. It's what is inside your head that matters in life - not what's outside your window

Should also say good luck too. My staffie girl tried and almost succeeded in scaling a six foot fence last night. Goodness know what I'll do with her! It's what is inside your head that matters in life - not what's outside your window

Thanks for replying x Staffies are one of a kind arent they!
I called the police first and they said they dont deal with dogs, they were the ones who gave me the number for the warden.
The silly thing is when we are out walking and we let him off the lead he never runs off, he stays by our side the whole time, he is only 1 and a half and im so worried about him, the weather is going to bad tonight and the thought of him being stuck outside scared and hungry just makes me so sad.
Im hoping this guy has taken him in until tomorrow when the vets are open properly and I will get a call to say its him.
Thanks again x0 -
Take someone with you and go out now or in a little while if you'll still be up as it'll be quieter and your voice will carry further. Go to any nearby parks or open spaces and call for him. Obviously be safe and don't go alone
Tomorrow do a google search for any vets in your area and call them all and give your dog's description and say he's lost. Print out posters and put them up around your local area on the lampposts and in shop windows, the supermarket, as the vets if they'll put one up too. Call the warden every day to remind him and check for any news. He'll be a resourceful little thing and will try to find the warmest comfiest place so try looking in any bushes or possible hideyholes. Good luck with your search and I really hope he's with the man! If he is found by someone hopefully they'll take him into the vets or the warden who would scan for a chip and be in touch with you

it might be worth putting something outside that smells of home - maybe some of the dogs bedding - it may attract him back if he is wandering locally.0

Thanks guys,
Husband has been out again tonight, we cant go together as we have two small children who are in bed.
I will ring the council again first thing and as to either be put through to the warden or given a number, is it normal to not be able to talk directly to them? I hope then they can give me the info for the pounds.
I have just registered him on doglost and k9 and im in the process of printing out some posters.
We are supposed to be going on our honeymoon wednesday and there is no way I can go abroad with him still missing.
I appreciate your replies and will keep you all informed x0 -
Thanks for that tip ill take his bed out now x0

Was he insured as I'm sure some insurance policies include something where if he gets lost, they will pay for your posters and things and send a team out to knock on doors in your area and help with the search. I'd also consider doing leaflets as well as posters and posting them through doors in as wide an area as possible as he could have gone further than you think.
