I have never worked for a bank but my sister worked for NatWest for about 15 years. She was originally employed as a cashier (years back - sorry don't know correct title).

She left to have kids and then returned to work in a NatWest telephone call centre. My sister is a committed Christian and she told her bosses that she would not offer loans to people who did not need them: she felt that she was supposed to cajole customers into loans they may not actually need and she believed this was immoral.

Her supervisor was constantly hassling her for being too helpful to customers and saying she should direct them to automatic routes of problem solving rather than helping them. Sis knew how their systems worked and did not wish to inconvenience customers by passing them on to folk who would not solve their queries anyway.

My sister said she felt the bank had no interest in the welfare of the customers, only in their profits. My sister left their employment.

I bank with NatWest and have had mostly good service - some problems in the past but I have had various accounts with them for almost 30 years and am staying put. I politely decline most of the add-ons I am offered.

Like most of the others here I suspect saying which bank I work for would be a bad idea, or at least definitely not a good one! I don't work in a customer facing environment so I don't have any interesting tips and tricks but I love my job. Just started a new role in the same company but grossly underestimated the pay increase I get so found out a couple of days ago I'll be earning several thousand pounds more than I thought I would be :)

Used to work in Fraud Defence which gave me lots of fun facts, how fraudsters minds work, where the line is drawn between account mismangement and what the bank treat as fraudulent behaviour, but I definitely can't share those!

Thanks for this - regards to the fraud I can tell people how it works, its the same modules/formulae that we all work to.... I am ex contracted in fraud management however instead of looking for external fraud I was after staff on the fiddle and had an extremely high success rate!

I can only presume you're brainwashed by what the bank have told you - but seriously, customers do not usually have that much about them to get away with fraud, they get lucky 99.9% of the times - its impossible to establish how a fraudsters mind works, ultimately it is greed but also some do it cos they can, i.e. ease of the theft!

I think we should have a wee chat, LOL, i'll teach you a few things about your employer :p..... :D:D

    Hiya

Its fine, so how was life at HSBC then? We used to have shelfstacker and AN Other on here that worked there and told us a lot.... I know all banks use the hard sell, I was with my gran and she went to pay a cheque in and cos her balance was high they (Lloyds) hassled her to invest - she told them she was 70 and investing is the last thing she's worried about, good job I was there cos they kept pushing and pushing until I told the cashier to button it or i'd report her to the FSA!! Its shocking - targets eh? :rotfl:

    I miss ShelfStacker :(

you and me both mate - he was a great source of knowledge for HSBC but then so was my other mate til they got pushed out....

Some banks get a little scared when their own staff turn against them..... happened just recently to another person on here with some wild accusations and guesswork!!

I can't say too much but me thinks SS was pushed - like most other bank staff that are here as a hobby (i.e. not the bank spies) :p:p

Remember when I used to think you worked for them as well :rotfl: :rotfl:

Well thats true, theres no specific fraudster mind out there, but there are loads of fascinating tricks out there that they try to use. Any possible loophole will be exploited, so attempting to stay ahead of the curve was interesting.

Not quite sure what you mean by brainwashed by the bank and not quite sure what you mean by "customers do not usually have that much about them to get away with fraud" either! I don't think I'm brainwashed by them though :o

But I've left there now, moved to online management, so I (try to) make the websites look pretty :)
