You have 7 days grace... fullstop.
Yes, it does run out tonight but the post office strikes last year highlighted that you do actually have 7 days grace. All Police forces have been instructed regarding the 7 days grace. If you need further evidence email me and i will send you the blurb. Obviously, with the postal strike over, the 7 days grace is still in place.
As for the insurance, not all insurance companies, especially the small ones do not get their policy details on the PNC as quickly as they should do. From personal experience, it sometimes comes down to human error as an operator needs to punch your details into the PNC. If your reg details are slightly wrong, it doesn't appear.
All Police ANPR cameras will flash up a vehicle with no insurance and you can have your car seized under section 165 if the cops do not think you have the insurance. Do as the previous person suggested, call your insurance company to make sure your policy is in place. If your policy is ok, call the MIB (0800 999 165) or your local Police station and ask them to check your car is showing as having insurance on PNC.
Also, have you recently bought it? If the previous owner of the car still has insurance on it, the Police may not be able to see yours as it will report multiple entries.
So in short, check you have the insurance still and then ring the cops to ask what PNC shows.

" You choose the tax disc you want, 6 or 12 months, and then enter your payment card details.
Note: an additional charge of £2.50 will be added to the amount payable if you use a credit card. "0 -

So what happens if you get your tax disc online and like has happened to me twice in the last few years it is lost in the post? then you have to ring em and ask for another but that one doesnt come till 2 days after your old one expires.....can you ask for a refund for them 2 days0 -
Why wait until the last minute? I've had my tax renewal letter three weeks.0

You can do it on-line, providing all the documents are fine, from the 5th day of the Month on which it expires.0

I left my insurance later to sort than normal because when I started getting quotes everyone wanted a £950 excess so it took me some time to find a company that didn't!!!Kavanne
