Tax Disc runs out today - OK to drive tomorrow?

The law has changed. As long as you have applied for one online, you can drive on the road without displaying a valid licence. However if you've not taxed it online, you can't drive it on the road until you've taxed it.
Not entirely correct.

If you use the electronic vehicle licensing service or tax by post at the end of the month, there’s now an exemption for not displaying a tax disc. This exemption covers the first five working days of the month to allow time for the new disc to arrive in the post. While you are still waiting for your tax disc you will need to display your current tax disc. The exemption only applies if applications are made before the current tax disc or SORN expires.
So OP needs to apply today while his current tax is still valid and hope it arrives by SaturdayI’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Why don't you just tax it online?

Not strictly true according to the website:

Awesome - so if you were able to tax it online you could drive it legally for 5 days without displaying, ie waiting for the new disc to turn up.
As OP has said, because the insurance hasn't registered on the DVLA website yet.0 -

Yes I knew that Spike ( thanks ) but nobody is forced to use a Credit Card, surely.
So no difference to the cost at the Post Office then.

Have you entered your insurance details on the taxing page?
Once you tax it your car online - they give you a reference number - all databases are immediately updated - ie ANPR so it won't flash up with the tracing police cars. I got mine in 2 days through the post.Total Quidco earnings - £547.98
