How many houses did you view before finding the right home?

When we bought our family home in the UK, we knew we wanted a Victorian Terrrace with a cellar, an attic bedroom and a garden and that was actually all we looked at really when we went in the house! The house said 'hello, I'm your new home' as soon as we walked into it, although it had loads of bottle green shag pile carpet (remember that, anyone?) and smelt of dog.
Our Spanish house ticked all the boxes except the ones we were prepared to compromise on (gardens and garages are not all that easy here stuck on the side of a mountain). We didn't mind doing a bit of work so long as it was habitable. We didn't mind not having a garden so long as it had outside space and when we went to the second floor and out onto the roof terrace-and the big, beautiful view stretching for miles in front of us - the house said to us 'you'll never do better than that, will you?' It was by far the best of the four we looked at, we didn't bother looking at the fifth!
It doesn't matter how many you view, but it must 'feel' like home, IMHO.(AKA HRH_MUngo)

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton0 -
we saw every 3 bed house in our price range in the area, about 15 in total - we wanted to make sure we got the best one. And we did too!0
