i'm still waiting for flyingpigs reply to this - let's see how he squirms out of this one :rotfl:
I really don't understand. Several pages back [post #34] I said that the CE predictions had been wrong for years. What more is there to say?
I will add that, even though they got it wrong, the fact that they changed stance slightly in 06-07 shows that they don't have a vested interest in forecasting in a particular direction. They change their minds as the evidence changes. Which is more than I can say for certain people...FACT.0 -
correct, there is nothing new here is there :Tthe_flying_pig wrote: »I really don't understand.

one really, really minor thing that may have passed you by...Wasn't it the express that in 2006 said something along the lines of House prices would double within 10 years? I think I will give their predictions like C.E's predictions a miss!
the Daily Express is a sensationalist newspaper that is run by a business that is there to generate as much revenue as possible for shareholders through people buying their news.
Capital Economics are an economic research consultancy that people actually go to for economic advice and analysis.
a slight but fundamental difference... :eek:0 -

in fairness Hamish did, on this very thread, explicitly claim that DE's house price forecasts had more credibility than CE....nearly as much as you change your User Id Mr Trolltastic
this is the only ID i've ever had on this or any other website.FACT.0 -
did you really hamish? or is the flyingpigperson taking things out of context again??the_flying_pig wrote: »in fairness Hamish did, on this very thread, explicitly claim that DE's house price forecasts had more credibility than CE.0 -

The person who started the thread cleary thought the express's opinions were worth starting a thread. Just pointing out they are not.
As for Capital Economics I highly doubt people actually take their advice on house prices seriously. I suspect its other economic advice people go for. Roger Bootle is held in high regards by many.0 -

I note all your selected quotes are from media stories. None of the content is actually from a published CE report. If you don't know the basis for the assumptions in the forecasts then its difficult to criticise.

i think you'll find that it was Hamish taking the selected (as you call them) media stories but never mind - for the hard of reading or those selectively reading that's on Post 37.Thrugelmir wrote: »I note all your selected quotes are from media stories.
