  • Hey you... you have nothing to feel ashamed about, it happens to the best of us. At least you are tackling this head on and not sticking your head in the sand. Check out other threads on this site, with regards to debts, finding work, upping your income, as there is lots of good advice on here, and not only to up your income but also to help you cut down on your outgoings ... make sure you have the best utility providers and insurance quotes by checking them on price comparison sites, see if you can cut down other expenses like groceries or tv\phone prividers.. every little helps x

If all else fails... sell ya partners kidney :P lol (kidding obviously). Have you got anything you can sell? Ebay?

Definitely get in touch with mortgage providers, or loan people, was anything insured for such an eventuality?

Don't be too proud, or embarrassed to ask for help and advice, parents can be a great source of support if they have been in similar situations, and are always great for the odd sunday meal (feed yaself up for free where you can). x

Best of luck, I hope things turn a corner for you and work out soon. At least you have each other, and one day you will look back at this time in your life and remember all the money saving skills you learnt because of it xx

Dont rush at all into making offers of payments regarding your debts, speak to CCCS first.

People on here are making token payments ( eg £1 a month to each). This should free up enough cash for you to live on ( the basics) in the meanwhile til he gets on his feet.

You may get help with CTB or LHA for your housing , im no expert but its worth looking into just in case.

Also while he is off he should think about selling any extra bits and bats round the house ebay/car boot/ amazon/ play etc. To bring in any extra pennies.
 Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
    This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast

Agree nothing to be ashamed about at all. My hubby is also unemployed at the moment. He is getting basic benefit but even with my wage we are struggling. On the job front I can sympathise, there doesn't appear to be anything ...and my o/h doesn't drive so that limits the options further. Wishing you all the very best xx

You can't get LHA for mortgage repayments.

thanks guys for all your comments. just talking about it to somebody who doesnt know us helps - I am hoping the bank will let us go interest only as we are up to date with payments, though have to take the hit of £3.5k charge for breaking the fixed agreement.

thanks lynzpower bout the offering money too soon i do need to talk to somebody who knows how to handle the banks. Originally I was going to give more than £100 a month for the loan but it will leave us will nothing and at the end of the day it wont stop me worrying about being in arrears so best to talk to the experts. feel like there is a bit of light at the end of the tunnel but just so scared of losing the house etc after working so hard to get them. i am hoping the banks, council tax etc will understand.

Sorry Lenny123 my mistake I didn't read your posting properly, I see you have already spoke to WAP.
I've been out of work 5 years due to a stroke, despite 2 neurosurgeons, other hospital consultants, phsyo's, G.P. and the medic who examined me for WAP report, I was a clear candidate for benefits, my claim failed. However:-after I awoke November 2009 unable to move or speak due another stroke, and I reapplied and recently started to receive DLA, but because my husband earns more that 23,000 including overtime, I cannot claim income support or housing benefit as his earning are demeeded to be sufficent for a family of 3.

Hang in there you will see light at end of tunnel as you are not burying head in sand.Once you tackle these things they are never as bad as you think. I know been there. As long as you talk to bank re mortgage before you fall behind they will help to reach solution but dont offer anyone anything that you cant afford cos if you dont stick to that they will come down hard on you. As before speak to CCCS before you reach any agreements re any arrears etc. xx

if you can persuade the bank to let you go interest only, that is not a remortgage and would not incur a charge. If you want to reduce the mortgage rate and break the current agreement then there would be a charge. How long does it have to run? And have you thought of asking for a mortgage holiday for a couple of months to ease the pressure?

    hiya guys

thanks again for the replies. its our own fault getting credit in the first place and not saving. once these bills are paid off (if i continue to make same payments debt apart from mortgage would be gone in bout 3-5 years) i am never getting in this situation again. in the past we moved countries twice and had to start from scratch which i know isnt an excuse but same time means we both didnt stay at home with the parents save then get a mortgage like some.

I dont mind working hard and shocks me that I cant keep up with my responsibilities but am hoping it wont be for long until were back on track.

We dont have much to sell we sold our car recently to help us get by thats bout it.

We got our bank charges back which i used to clear some of the loans instead of spending it on us and the house which i know is sensible but i could really do with a holiday !! Actually cant wait to speak to the experts next week athough I am in two minds (1) try to carry on as we are even if it kills or splits us up to pay everybody what we owe them each month and try and get debt free asap or (2) pay mim back to the banks, drag out the debt for years but in the meantime actually enjoy life instead of being a big bag of stress...

guess its a no brainer - thanks again for your responses x
