Have you considered doing something outside of teaching just on a temp basis if money's tight?

I've just finished my teacher training (different situation to you probably as I'm in Scotland), and i'm working in a reception over the summer just to get some extra pocket money to tide me over. Although the volunteering in the school is much better experience - your course must be very different to ours, we were either at uni or in school on placement while the schools were in session so wouldn't have been able to pick up work in a school anyway!

Connologs is right, the CRB check is not necessarily a waste, you just never know what is going to come up! lots of positivity and a bit of (tempered) aggression goes a long way - hound the life out of the agency - and every other you can get yourself registered with! :D

Oh - not sure if this is bum advice given the situation is different up here, but have you tried local colleges and further education establishments? It might be worth speccing your CV to them, you might be lucky and even get a night school or something you could teach at?

    good luck with it anyway!!

I did do but there's hardly anything going round my area at all, it's not a big town so that's why i've ended up just volunteering.

I officially broke up for the summer at the end of May so i've had two months where i've been able to volunteer, my school placement was in Feb through to April but yeah I think it's different at all uni's, I know some only finished placement a few weeks ago as some students were still on their placement while i've been volunteering.

Unfortuentely as I have about 6 crb's it was a waste in this case as i could only use that one for that agency who couldn't get me any work, but lesson learned and I will stick to voluntary next summer :)
