what's it like up there folks?

What are the housing, schools and nurseries like?

What mobile companies work up there and how fast is the broadband!

Thanks in advance.

Depends where you are living, Lossie, Elgin or Kinloss.

Broadband generally around 5Mbps, very little LLU apart from TalkTalk on some exchanges. Most mobiles are generally OK but there are a lot of patchy areas due to remote location.

It will either be Elgin or Lossie mate, but I am going to push extensively for Lossie. 5Mbps is a lot more than I was expecting - I reckoned it would be 2Mbps! I didn't expect any LLU that far North lol.

Any ideas on which mobile companies work around the camp area?

And this is a useful website:

Although, according to Samknow's,the's no LLU service in Lossie.

For housing schools etc give the HIVE a bell....they have 3 at the moment, one on camp and one in Elgin for scaleys, and an SP HIVE for singlies in the Den. You should be able to get a welcome pack and some good gen from them.

Enjoy your tour, I liked it so much up here I settled since leaving a few years back.
