Is it legal for Barclays to force me to bank with them because i work for them?

I would argue that The Truck Act of 1831 made this nasty practice illegal.0

But Barclays are not offering "tokens" that can only be used in their stores. Once the money is in their account, you can freely transfer it to another account or withdraw it at an ATM or branch counter.Cook_County wrote: »I would argue that The Truck Act of 1831 made this nasty practice illegal.
Simple solution is to logon to online banking on payday and simply transfer the whole lot to your preferred current account. If it goes by FPs, then you'll have the money in your chosen account immediately.
Also, the Wages Act 1986 repealed the Truck Act 1831.0 -
well look at it from a potential customer's point of view. If you work for Barclays but wouldn't bank with them and yet you are selling Barclays products to a customer but admit to banking elsewhere it would be off-putting to the customer which will be, I assume, the reasoning behind the ruling.
Who would have the cheek to ask a bank employee who they bank with?
I'd tell them to mind their own business!
I work for a mobile operator, and have a staff line, which is unused, and my main contract is with a competitor. Various reasons behind this, but they are my reasons and I don't have to justify them to anyone.I spent 25 years in the mobile industry, from 1994 to 2019. Worked for indies as well as the big networks, in their stores also in contact centres. I also hold a degree in telecoms engineering so I like to think I know what I’m talking about 😂0 -
I used to work for Abbey (before they were Santander) and banked with Barclays - they had no problems with that, it wasnt compulsory to have an Abbey a/c but if you did you got paid a day earlier. I did end up opening an Abbey basic account but just so I could get my money a day earlier!*The RK and FF fan club* #Family*Don’t Be Bitter- Glitter!* #LotsOfLove ‘Darling you’re my blood, you have my heartbeat’ Dad 20.02.200

suppose a bank employee, giving the spiel on a new acount - one of thse where, say, you pay so much a month but get various 'perks', was asked by the customer, 'Do YOU have one of these accounts then' and gets the reply 'no actually, I bank with a different bank...'Who would have the cheek to ask a bank employee who they bank with?

same reason, in a way, I suspect, that store staff get discount cards so they shop where they work. Then they can recommend products of the store because they have actually tried them.
I'm not saying the bank's right - just, possibly explaining some of the reasoning behind it.Don't put it DOWN; put it AWAY"I would like more sisters, that the taking out of one, might not leave such stillness" Emily Dickinson

But the Truck Acts were intended to prevent employers paying wages, whole or in part, in kind.
Employment Rights Act 1986 would be, I believe, current legislation in this area.Don't put it DOWN; put it AWAY"I would like more sisters, that the taking out of one, might not leave such stillness" Emily Dickinson

There was a drama within RBS over this policy a few years ago.

This policy was in place when I joined Barclays 20 years ago.0

This was in place with Bank of Scotland when I started work with them but now no longer applies I believe. I still work for them but I take great delight in banking elsewhere because basically I have had awful treatment from my employer in terms of my accounts with them and as a member of staff.BSC #215/No.1 Jan 09 Club0

Out of Curiosity is it because they can have whole text message transcripts? See who you're calling and when, how long and pressumably transcripts for the calls?
Also they could triangulate your reception (pressuming it's true and bot just in films) finding out where you are at all time.
